A funny fact came to ligbt recently at the registration of the birth of a child. The happy father was asked the maiden name of his wife, to which he answered: "Rose B." "Well, how do you spell it? Bee, By, or Bey, or Iiqw?" "Just simply B." That cannot be. B is only an ini tial, not a name." "It is all the name my wife ever had until she married mo. Neither Bho nor her family have ever had any other name than just B, neither more nor less." They could hardly have had less, and an examination of the record showed that they had really never had more. Beyond doubt the B fam ily bears tho shortest name in France, perhaps in the world. Only one other name of equal brevity is known, and that is the name of a place. About fifteen miles from Peroune on the Ham line, there is a commune known as Y. It has some two hun dred inhabitants. The origin of the name of Y is unknown, and it would be curious to investigate the origin of the patronymic of the B family. For scrofulous disorders, and mer curial diseases, the best remedy is Ayer's Sarsaparilln. Elections will take place in Wash ington biennially and in even years. Tha first, however, occurs in 1889 at the time ot the adoption of the con stitution, and the terms or an ataie officers, including supreme judges, nrfl for three venrs. On the first TnPRrlnv nftfir tho first MondaV 111 November, 1889, conuty officers will be chosen, and every two years mere after. In November, 1892, the first regular state election occurs, and thpn p.v.-rv snecpfidiuff four years. The legislajiiro is required to enact a restriction law ror tne eimru auwu, but this direction is not compulsory, except to cities aud towns of over 500 inhabitants". BleartJEJiseasc.
