The unusually dry season has produced lamentable results all over eastern Oregon, and water has be come invaluable. How to produce it is a question of paramount import ance to the settlers, and they are pro ceeding to do for themselves all that is possible. If there is any virtue in favorable location the people of Har ney have everything to hope from well-boring. The great water reser voirs to be found to the west in the Cascades should furnish deep stores of water ready to rise to the surface. The Blue mountains are yet nearer and if being surrounded by vast mountain walls that possess untold stores of water, is a promise of water from artesian sources, then the in land empire should possess means to create a paradise for its popula tion. There has not been an execution of a white man in South Carolina for twenty-five years. Light-colored horses stand tbe heat the best. Milwaukee doctors use bicycles on night oalls.
