One of the good "wngon road bills" passed by the last legislature was that making an appropriation of 815,000 for a wagon road through Clatsop county, connecting wiih the Columbia and Washington county roads. The survey of this road was completed last week, the viewers re port a good route and the work will be begun at once. The appropria tion by the state has stimulated the counties in which it will be expended to improve the old which will be con nected by the new one; the Columbia county commissioners are building new bridges across the Nehalem, the Clatsop county board are repairing the road from Astoria to Olney, Washington county is putting some needed improvements on the road to Greenville, and tho result of this .lit tle sum expended by the Btate on "in ternal improvements will - be s good road for travel all the way "frem: the Willamette valley to Astoria,- over easy grades. A vast seotion of fertile country through these three coane3, in some places almost an impenetrable wilderness, even to hunters, will be opened to settlement by means of this road, and it will not be many years before the money thua scat tered in the forest will have produed a rich harvest ot fine farms all the way from the Willamette to the sea. A Peculiarity of Mr. Blaine. A Portland hotel clerk says that Mr. Blaine is easy to suit. "He will come in and' register and ask for a room if he is alone.
