The "they say" of social life is the great bugbear that causes a great deal of wear upon the nervous system, sleepless nights and plan ning days. We have seldom seen a better rendition of this matter than is found in the following from the Farmer's Friend: "What a silly practice it is to fret, fume and worry over what the world thinks of you, and live in a state of chronic discomfort because some choose to underrate you, or view you through the green goggles of envy and suspicion. We do not advocate entire indifference to the world's estimate, for all should strive to do right, and then cam its confidence and respect. But no matter how near the line one may walk, there are some . natures who delight in talking. To chase these slanders would be as foolish as stopping an important mission to fight a mosquito, or to catch every little dog that barks from tho wayside as we pass. If a person would devote the time to catching these little lies and unworthy sus picions set in motion by smalK natures there would be but little time left for life work. Wo do not counsel indifference to misstate ments or great slanders such should be traced to their source and their cowardly originators ex posed and promptly punished. We simply hold that it is worse than useless to try to bridle every wagging tongue, and most ot the little doubts and insinuations be long to the insect tribe and arc not worth tracing up. Lettliem alone and the' will soon bite at some one else, and the richer the charac ter the better they will like it. Ureat natures, strong in their sense of justice and right, should scorn to notice them, or to spend time in hunting gnats when nobler game awaits them. They are not great annoyances, and all people must expect to be stung by them occasionally. Consequently, the wiser way is to take their little pinlike punctures in a philosophic spirit and pursue the way that wisdom marks out re gardless of their puny importance. Life is too short and its real duties too many to be neglected for the sake of catching and kill ing these fussy and foolish little verbal flies. The man who per mits these insects to ruflle his temper or divert his atteneion from some fixed purpose is indeed weak, and scarcely deserving of pity. Wc ail know that there are people who have not brains enough to do anything better than lie about those whom nature has more richly endowed. It is their mission in life, just as it is the mission of the buzzard to turn away from fresh meat to dine on carrion. Children Cry for Pitcher's Castoria (Then Baby was sick, wo gave her Castoria. tVhen sho was a Child, she cried for Castoria, (Then she became Miss, she clans to Castoria, iVhen she had Children, she gave them Castorit In a paper read by a Baltimore physician it was truly said that persons accept medical charity who'would not accept it in any other form, and who aro able to pay the doctor. The reason for this condition of thing lies, in a great measure, in the willingness of physicians, especially young physicians, who want practice, to give their services. No other profession is so charitable as the medical. It is beyondquestion that Ayer's Cherry Sectoral heads the list of remedies for diseases of the throat and lungs. Mrs. Li. Li. Sherman of Great i'alls, AI. T., secured a divorce from her husband recently, and immediately married her lawyer. At the reception which followed the wedding her ex-husband was said to be ono of the blithest dancers. A New York occulist asserts that the greatest enemy to the eyes of young men is the'eigarctte. It causes a disease known to the i.:i 1 , i , r which can be cured only by long 'treatment. proiession as me "cigarette eye. Two "learned judges" of a New York court have- dismissed a suit for damages on account of a dog bite because the plaintiff could not show that the dog had bitten some one else before, and, there fore, there was no evidence that it was a vicious dog." The plain tiff may console himself, says the Standard-Union, with the thought that he will be a valuable witness for the next person bitten by the same animal. The Iowa farmer objects to giving his note and having it dis counted for cash. The latest sharper says: "Oh, we'll keep tho note," ana ue writes across tho face of it "not transferable." In a short time it is found in the hands of a third party with an "e" added to the "not," which makes it read "note transferable." The taint of scrofula in your blood can be wholly eradicated by Ayer's Sarsaparilla. In a recent trial at Albany a witness said he considered the de fendant insane, and when asked why replied: "Because he gets in to a perfect fret about it if he owes anybody any money." Melancholy or Despondency. Commonly called tho "hlues," general lv proceeds from a sluggish Liver. It either causes Dyspepsia, or it follows it being both eaue and effect. To cure it take Simmons L'n er Regulator. "I - as so sick and low spirited I would hac given an j thing to get well; and if any one had ensured lnothegoodhealth produced by using Simmons Liver Keg ulator, and charged mo a thousand dol lars, 1 would willingly have paid it in fact, S10.000 would bo worth Jess to me than what it has done for me. Guo. F. 15 vkhktt, 31acon (." The Boston Herald is a profit sharing institution. Recently the employes received their share of the net profits of 1887. The shares amounted to 15,000, and each em ploye was paid an amount equal to 4 per cent of his wages or cwo week's pay. Weary and Worn. A fastidious stom ach Is not offended by it, and to persons of both sexes in delicate health n ho occasion ally feel the need ot an efficient tonic, the whole rango of the pharmacopeia and the caM'ntrue of proprietary medicines does not present a more useful, safer or more decisive one. Jt Is also incomn liable for fever and ague, rheumatism and kidney troubles. Some arithmetician computes that if a man receives 3 a day and saved every cent of it. 1000 years would elapse before he could be master of 1,000,000. This is discouraging. A FAMILY NECESSlir. Ilot weather.with Jits debilitating effects needs some bracing substance to put the system in a healthy state and thereby prevent disease. It has been ascertained by the experience of many f of our best peoplo that Moxio Nerve Food will do moro to sustain tho tired and weak than any other article on tho market at thn present time.
