Salem, June 22. W.W.Saun ders was this morning sentenoed by Judge Boise to imprisonment in the penitentiary for hie, bis attorneys having decided to accept the verdict of the jury and not to make a motion for a new trial. Saunders appeared considerably dejected, and bore up well under the sentence, having evidently made up his mind to submit calm ly to the worst. When asked if he had anything to say, he said to the judge: "I helieve you have no discretion in the matter of sentence;" and Judge Boise an swered: "I have not," whereupon Saunders rejeined: "Under the circumstances I have nothing to say," and sentence was passed. Saunders manifested no noticeable emotion until he separated from the sheriff and deputy at the peni tentiary, whither ho was taken in the afternoon. Then he broke completely down.
