A. passenger train "on the Northern Pacific road jumped the track fif teen miles west of here this morning-. The reporls say that several Ipcrsdhs -were . badly injured. A reuei train nas gone 10 me wrecic. ft Chicago, April 30. A Times Steele, Dak., special says: The west bound Pacific express on the i Northern Pacific jumped the track ( to-day at about 1 o'clock, twelve miles out oi tnis city, near Dris coll station, and precipitated five out of its six cars into -a ditch. The train was running on a heavy down grade at the time, and the heat of the sun, which has been something unusual here at this season, had warped' the rails. The engine and express car passed over in safety, but the five cars following left the track and turned bottom side up in the ditch. Two of the coaches were loaded with two companies of the Seventh United States cavalry, en route for Fort Yates and Buford. The other three cars were filled with emigrant and first class pas sengers, mostly bound for the Pa cific coast. Following is a list of the killed and weunded: M. 0. Breed, of Faribault, Minn. fie was accompanied by his fami ly, en route for "Washington terri tory. He wns standing on the platform talking to Charles Stan ley, of this city, when the crash came, and in attempting to jump off was caught by an overturning coach an.d crushed to death. Stan ley escaped injury by jumping off on the opposite side. Breed's family were uninjured. . The wounded are C. S. Gray, of Ellsworth Falls, Maine, cut in the arm and hand; Miss Gertrude Hill, of Bozeman, Montana, badly hurt internally; "NY. H. Scobell, super intendent of the Northern Pacific telegraph lines, legs badly smashed, and doubts of his recovery; Mi chael McCawbry, Seventh cavalry, Fort Yates, was seriously cut on the shoulders, and collar bone broken; H. R.Scott, Seventh cav alry, Fort Buford, jaw broken; Albert Wolf, Seventh cavalry, Fort Yates, and John C. Kelly, Fort Buiord, injured internally but not seriously. Only the dining car and sleeper remained on the rails. It is sur prising, under the circumstances, that a score of people were not killed. Seattle a Little Scared. Seattle, May 1. The precau tion taken by Gov. Semplo to maintain order in Seattle last evening have prevented an out break, if, indeed, there was really danger of trouble. Company B, First regiment, remained at their armory all night, but were dis missed this morning. Companies D, E, and F were also held in readiness for action, but no trouble of any kind occurred. There has been little excitement on the streets to-day, and citizens gener ally are inclined to believe that there was little or no cause for the scare of last night. Employment is plenty here, and there is a gen eral demand for labor. No one is out of work, and none except a few professional agitators are dis posed to precipitate trouble. The officials, including Gov. Serqple and Sheriff Cochrane, are. deter mined to preserve order, and the general feeling is that there is not the slightest probability of an out break. Yreka, May 1. The same team which upset the Stutts troupe on the Siskiyou mountains ran away at the same place yesterday and badly injured two persons. By ron Cole, of Siskiyou Mountain, was also dangerously injured be ing thrown from the wagon. TOOK AM, HIS PAINS AWAY. A. M. Chisholm, of No. 2723 Stod dart Street, St. Louis, Mo., writes: "During my long residence in Can ada I suffered for years from pains in my back, across the region of the kidneys and by the constant use of Allcock's PiiAsffeBS invariably ob tained great relief. Upon removing to St. Louis, I was again troubled with the same complaint, and was advised, to use Magnetic and other kinds, of plasters, without being re lieved of pain, so fell back to my old friend Axlcock, who gives me more relief than any other I have ever tried. X always recommend them to my friends and.all who suffer from pains and aches of any kind.'7 Murder of An Innocent Man. Bakersfield, April 30. About three weeks ago a man who stated he was hunting for land made his appearance near Paso creek, at the foot of the Sierras. His actions were suspicious, and he was close ly watched. Many living near the creek became satisfied that the stranger was none other than Pe ter Olsen, the murderer of Mrs. Lyons in Napa, February 27. Aleck and Jeffe'rson Carver, broth ers, procured a warrant for Olsen's arrest. They invited him to break fast at their house, and saw that the description of him which they had tallied with the stranger. The two brothers decided to at tempt Olsen's arrest at the cabin where he slept. Accordingly, shortly before noon Friday, in compare with R. Bowe.n, they ar rived at the cabin. They were arme'd with shotguns and pistols. He was found clearing ground for a garden. Aleck Carver called on him to throw up his hands, as he had a warrant for his arrest. The three men then covered Olsen with their weapons. The latter seized his ax and endeavored to hurl it at Jefferson Carver, whereupon both brothers fired. Olsen re ceived both charges iu the neck and breast and fell to the ground and expired in a few minutes. His body was brought here last night and fully identified. Olsen had cut the name of "M. H. Seibert" on a tree near the cabin and written on the cabin door "homestead of Michael H. Seibert." People from Napa will arrive to-morrow morning to iden tify him. BUT IT WASN'T OLSE.V. Bakersfield, May 1. Sheriff Harris of rsapa, accompanied by A. J. Grigsby, brother of Mrs. Lyons, arrived this morning to at tend the inq crest upon the body of the man killed at Paso creek on Frida3' and who was supposed to be the murderer of Mrs. Lyons at Napa, February 27. Soon after the inquestr commenced Grigsby and the sheriff testified that, al though the resemblance to Olsen was strong,, the deceased was not that individual. As it transpired that there was a letter in Gien ville, Linn's valley, postoffice di rected to M. H. Siebert, which name the man went under, it was sent for in the hope that it may throw some light on who deceased is. The inquest was therefore ad journed until to-morrow. J3ucklcii'& Armca. 2air.
