I waters weakened a part of the sup ports of the bridge near the depot, so much that to-day, while the en gine stationed at this place was passing over it the structure gave way. The strength of the rails, however, -was great enough to hold the engine in place. Workmen began immediately to Cx up the bridge and to-night the engine will be pulled ofl' the bridge and the repairs begun. The Albany express was able" to go around the bridge over the switches, and it ran to Albany backwards, when it turned around and continued its journey lo Lebanon. Frank Johnson was to-day ar rested and bound over in &200 bonds for burglary of the residence of S. B. Conn, near Salem, a month ago. Tie secured a suit of clothes and a watch. Albany, March 8. The Ore gon Pacific's steamer Three Sin tov, Capt. Bell, while going down the river through the draw of the bridge this morning, collided with the middle pier, causing trivial damage to both pier and boat. The steamer continued her course down the river for Salem. Mrs. E. R. Oheadle sold to 1). B. Monteith this evening, a lot containing Mxtv-seven foot on Firsi street, for 8,000. Frank Harris, who shot John Craft at Scio yesterday, has been at rested, and had a preliminary examination at Scio this evening. The result of the trial has not been received here at this hour, but it is considered certain that the prisoner will be held without bonds and brought to this city k) morrow. Craft is in a dangerous condition, and the physicians think it doubtful if he can re cover. The ball has not been ex tracted, owing to the swollen con dition of the neck. La Grande, March 8. The weather is fair and snow leaving rapidly, Stock generally in fair condition. Loss thus far very light. Feed is scarce, but with fair weather there will be plenty and at fair figifres. A correspondent writes from Canyon ville, Southern Oregon, to a Baker City paper, saying that the present month witnessed tin worst weather in that section since 1852, The loss of stock, he says, will be frightful. On the south Umpqua and Elk creek the snow was from three to five feet deep, and as far as heard from the weather is very severe. On Middle fork and big bend of Cow creek the snow has been very, deep and most of the stock will be lost, and on all those mountain ranges where they had a great many cat tle and sheep the loss will be very severe. This happened in Idaho, says the Malad JEnter)rise: Allen Hun sucker, the polyg, who was cap tured by the deputy F. S. mar- snals, last week, after shooting at him and causing him to swim the Malad river, during the recent cold spell, from reliable reports, is a rooster of the first cross, so to speak. Several years ago he took an eleven-year-old daughter of Bishop Jensen's, at Bingham city, as a polygamous wife. She at tempted to go home one day, and he overtook her, and like a fiend grabbed her by the hair of the head and dragged her one ten acre block length along the street, curs ing her for leaving him. lie now has seven women, it is said, and has had upwards of forty children. He was a captain in the Moimon battalion and Lamanite too, we are told. TKSTIMONr OF A PAINTEIt. . I Kq. 103 Carltox Avente, Brooklyn, N. Y. y Allcock's Porous Piasters are un doubtedly the best external remedy manufactured. I make this Assertion to the public from my own personal experience of their wonderful virtues. Suffering from severe pains in my side and chest, contracted through a severe cold. I applied a couple of Allcock's Porous Plasters upon going to bed at night. The result was, that in eight hours after applying them I could get up and walk about with very little pain or ache, when the night previous I could neither get up nor down without help, nor stoop to remove my shoes. I have since used them in my family for various ailments, and have never known them to fail to give almost immediate relief. T.H. Bcktn. i Appropriation Bills. "Washington, March 8. Palouse City Werld: "We have seen the story of Uncle Tom Ster rett, as per Gazette, Cincinnati, copied in several paper?-, stating that he has five wives and that he is the father of twenty five chil dren. That is a good item. But as Palouse beats the world, we must tell of Uncle John L. Lucas, lie is now living a mile out from Palouse City, with his third wife, (we are two short on wives, areivt we?) Well, Uncle John is the father of thirty-three children, born of these three women, and a big ger, finer lot of people would be hard to find. Tf Uncle John should "take hold of all the men he meets, he would down about seven-eighths of them in a square wrestle, though he must be now near 70 years old. 3. rrovd Blood Elixir is the nASA- only Blood lUemedy guaranteed.
