Pitts, the President of the'New York State Senate, stands almost without a peer. Such a place I as he holds is a most tryjng one and j requires great powers of endurance. I One of Mr. Pitts' ablest supporters will be seen in hia letter given be be eow: State of N. Y., Senate Cham- ) beb, Albany. March 11, 1886. f I have used Allcock's Porous Plasters in ray family for the past hve years, ana can trutntauy say ' great cures. I would not be without , T1 . , . t them. I have m several instances given some to friends suffering with, weak and lame backs, and they have invariably afforded certain and. Bpeedy relief. They cannot be loo highly commended. Edmund L. Prrxa. Mo3t Cordially Appreciated. Washing ro;, Feb. 10.The senate committee on cpmm.erce to day considered the clam of Ore gon in connection with the river and harbor bill. The different items were taken up in order and pas-ed upon. It is possible that a final revision, such as is usually made by committees, will slightly change the results reached, but this is doubtful. Following, which may be considered unofficial, as they have not been formally submitted to the senate, are the increases made over the house ap propriations. Mouth of the Columbia, from $125,000 to 300,000. Cascades, irom 100,000 to $150,000. Yaquiiut, from $50,000 to 80. 000. Lower Willamette and Colum bia rivers, from $35,000 to S0,-000. It will be seen that the increase, including fifteen thousand for a boat i ail way, is three hundred and fifteen thousand over the house bill. The tctal for Oregon rivers and harnors, as passed by the house, was thiee hundred and sixty-five thousand. Mr. Dolph's ef forts to secure large appro priations were supplemented by thoso of two or three sena tors who have visited Oregon. Stutor Gorman was ;ijP most out spoken of Jnou-resiient senators for liberal " appropriations. The exceptionally lare increase for tho mouth of the Columbia was se cured largely through his.influence. He holds that by far the largest single appropriation should be ap plied at this point. When thi item for a boat rail way at The Dalles was reached, at Dolph'g, suggestion, Mitchell was invited to appear before the committee and state his views on the measure. After he withdrew, the committee authorized the Or egon senators to prepare such an amendment as they desired to sub mit for a survey of the Dalles and for an appropriation then for of 15,000, and promised that it should be incorporated in the bill. The total amount appropriated last spsiin for Oregon rivers was 598,750. Oregoniun Special. Chills and Fever. Malaria. His dog, while Making around his master, hie the hummei of his gun with his paw, the gun was discharged, and George fell dead.
