The Buffalo Becoming Extinct, Anticipating the early disap pearance from this country of the buffalo, Professor Baird of the Smithsonian institution, deter mined in September last to send out a party of hunters, undor charge of W. T. Hornaday, taxi dermist of the National museum, wiih a view to securing a complete lino of specimens, ranging from the full grown ani mal to calves of both sexes, for the use ot the museum. Mr. Horna day has jubt returned from his tiip. In his hunt, he savs, which covered more than 1,000 square miles in Montana, he saw only thirty buffaloes, and of these he secured twenty-five. The days of the buffalo, in his opinion, ate numbered. There will be but few, if any, left next year, and be fore long the buffalo will have entirely disappeared from the North American continent.
