The probable los3 of the Austrian ship Miroslar reoalls the history of the famous ship Young America, the name which was given to the vessel when she was launched at the shipyard of William H. Webb in 1S33. The Miroslar sailed from the Dela ware Breakwater for Fiurae on Feb ruary 17th and has not since been heard from. She was one of those stanch live-oak vessels, with iron and copper castings, built expressly for tho California trade. She was 233 feet long, 1,439 tons measurment and a three-decker. Her first eighteen vovnires from New York to San Francisco, including one stop of sixty days at mo Janeiro for repairs, averaged 118 days and 16 hours! Eight successive voyages from San Francisco to New York in her palmy days were made in 99 days, 100 days, 83 days, 86 days, 92 days, 97 days, 99 days and 92 days, respectively. No yaoht or man-of-war was ever kept in better order than the Young America until she was sold to G. Tarraboc chia & Co., of Buccari; Austria, in 1879. Her fast voyages and beautiful lines always attracted a large crowd to her wharf when she was in port. Some Marine Awards Jlade. United States District Judge Hoff man has rendered a decision award ing tho English pilot, H. Peletier, $4,000 damages for his involuntary trip to this port on the American ship Occidental. Judge Hoffman has also awarded 2,200 to Mate O'Brien, and 8900 each to P. Hanlon and T. Har teger, sailors of the steamer Umatil la, which went ashore on Cape Flat tery rocks. The three men sued the owners of the stflamnr fnr sfilv.inro claiming that it was through their exertions tnat tne Umatilla was got off the rooks and taken safely into Victoria, B. C S. F. Comm.
