A Garfield Saturday after noon. Sho is loaded with a, very large cargo of lumber, from- St. Helens' and Ranier. Bridge Meeting Pursuant to call, a number of citi zens mot at tho court house yestorday afternoon to take into consideration tho building of a bridge from Smith's Point across Youngs Bay. On mo tion S. D. Adair was chosen President Frank J. Taylor Secretary. On 1110 t.on, the Chairman appointed a com mittee of live, consisting of I). K. Warren, W. . Paikcr, C. A. Mc- Guiro, ,Dr. Aug. C. Kinney and S. D. Adair to consult with tho Astoria and Winnnemucca Rail road Company, and see hat, if any thing, could be done in the way of bridging Youngs bay under the fran chise given by the Oregon Legislature to said railroad company, to ascer tain the most practicable manner of building said bridge, and to report at a meeting to be called bv said cominit tee. On motion, the meeting ad journed. Considerable interest w:is mani fested in the proceedings, and after the usual preliminaries the matter will bo pushed to completion. It is confi dently stated that should tho proposed thoroughfare assume the form of a toll road, tho requisite e-jpital would be forthcoming at once. A Philadelphia paper tells of a recent surgical operation on Mrs Lou- iso Orner, in which a tumor weighing one hundred and twelve pounds was cut away; the patient weighing but aeventy-fiva pounds.
