Monday, Dec. 7 F RIENDS HOLD BOOK SALE SWCD ANNUAL DINNER Friends of the Siuslaw Public Library will hold a Holiday Book Sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Bromley Room of the Siuslaw Public Library, 1460 Ninth St. Just in time for gift-giving, this themed book sale will feature thousands of like- new books. It also features a gift wrap- ping service. Everyone is invited to attend the Siuslaw Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) annual meeting and din- ner buffet at Driftwood Shores Resort, 88416 First Ave., in Florence. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a no-host bar. Dinner will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dinner is $20 per person and includes a buffet with all the chef’s fixings and cheesecake with port-marionberry sauce for dessert. FRAA ARTS FESTIVAL Florence Regional Arts Alliance (FRAA) hosts the Holiday Arts Festival, the perfect place to shop for unique gifts. Meet craftsmen and artisans showing their latest creative designs and unique works of art from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St. E MPTY B OWLS FILL UP FOR HUNGRY The 20th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser will be held today, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, from noon to 3 p.m., at the Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St. All proceeds benefit Florence Food Share. Buy an empty, handmade ceramic bowl created by local artists for $5 to $10. Bowls will be accompanied by a coupon redeemable for one cup of soup at a local restaurant. Several businesses on Laurel St (west of Highway 101) will be open after nor- mal business hours from 6 to 8 p.m. for a second-annual Christmas get-together. Tuesday, Dec. 8 Saturday, Dec. 12 KXCR BOARD PUBLIC MEETING H ECETA L IGHTSTATION OPENS HOUSE KXCR, 90.7 FM will hold its annual Board of Directors meeting in the Bromley Room of the Siuslaw library from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend and help guide Florence’s only noncommercial, community radio as it enters its second year. Light refreshments will be served. Heceta Head Lightstation is celebrating 20 years of hosting the annual Victorian Christmas Open House on Dec. 12, 13, 19 and 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. Santa will be stopping by to hand out candy canes and receive Christmas lists from children. Visitors will be encouraged to take a night time walk to the lighthouse, so bring a flashlight. Entry to the Keeper’s House is free but donations are accepted. Parking is available at the Heceta Head Lighthouse State Scenic View Point, just below the Keeper’s House, and a shuttle bus will take visitors from the park right to the front door. Or bring warm, rain- proof clothing and a flashlight so you can enjoy the beautiful walk up from the beach to the festivities.
