EDITOR@THESIUSLAW NEWS.COM PHOTOS BY JACK DAVIS/SIUSLAW NEWS Eighty-nine Kiwanis Club of Florence members and community volunteers spent Thanksgiving serving free turkey din- ners with all the trimmings to 640 diners Nov. 26 at the sixth annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner held at the Florence Elks Lodge. Kitchen help arrived at 6 a.m. to begin the food preparation. The 640 dinners was a record, sur- passing last year by nearly 100. Leftovers went to the free lunch program that the Kiwanis Club supports at the United Methodist Church. Yachats Ladies Club to host 88th annual bazaar YACHATS The Yachats Ladies Club will host its 88th annual Christmas Bazaar on Friday, Dec. 4, from noon to 6 p.m., as well as Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5 and 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. The event will be held at the YLC Clubhouse, 286 W. Third and Pontiac streets in Yachats. On Saturday only, lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and pie will be served all day. Admission is free to this family-friendly event. The Yachats Ladies Club is the longest continually run- ning women’s service club in Lincoln County. This group of hardworking women cre- ate fun events to raise money for community needs. The 87th annual Christmas Bazaar affords the public an opportunity to find wonderful and unusual hand made gift items and support the local community at the same time. The clubhouse will be decked out in cheery holiday finery and a huge variety of clever, beautiful and useful handmade items all made by club members will be avail- able. Visitors will find all kinds of knitted items from slippers to hats, scarves and sweaters, jewelry, journals, holiday decor, ornaments, Christmas aprons and place mats, beau- tiful and sturdy tote bags, afghans, small quilts, cards, bookmarks, aprons in a vari- ety of fabrics, casserole carri- ers and more. Many of these items are exclusive to the Yachats Ladies Club. A wonderful selection of delightful edible goodies will be sold as well. Talespinners welcome new member David Edge was recently inducted into the Siuslaw Talespinners chapter of Toastmasters International by club president Irma Geller. Edge was raised in Oregon and spent a good deal of his adult life liv- ing in France. He is cur- rently back in Oregon and living in Florence. Edge is working on building a business around an educational toy he has invented.
