Jeff Gusinow, Oregon Pacific Bank’s newly appoint- ed senior vice president has been instrumental in establish- ing and sustaining Light the Grill, along with local oncolo- gist Dr. Jeff Sharman. Gusinow was inspired to launch this local fundraising event after he was diagnosed with a noncurable form of Lymphoma eight years ago. “We are delighted to be hosting Light the Grill this year,” said Ron Green, presi- dent and CEO of Oregon Pacific Bank. “We hope to be good custodians of this event for many years to come. We would like to thank Jeff Gusinow and the local chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for giving us the opportunity to be a part of something that brings awareness and directly con- tributes to improving the lives of so many people.” Light the Grill BBQ will be hosted in Eugene on the top level of the Parcade Building at the corner of Eighth and Willamette streets, across from Cascade Title Company. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Friday, Sept. 18. Guests are welcome to attend for a donation of $12 per plate. In addition to the food and beverages donated by Builders Electric and Bigfoot Beverages, Light the Grill will also be serving ice cream donated by Umpqua Dairy and coffee drinks by Full City Coffee, with a special thank you to Sanipac for donating trash services. A wide variety of silent auc- tion and raffle items have been donated by generous individu- als and businesses. Items include a variety of medical procedures including Lasik Eye Surgery and follow up treatment, colonoscopy and vasectomy. Franz, DVM Area World War II veterans were honored at the 70th anniversary of the Victory over Japan (VJ) day at the Oregon Coast Military Museum on Aug. 15. Special guest speaker Jim Perry (third from right) presented “Remembering Pearl Harbor” to the assembled guests. Perry is retired from the U.S. Navy and witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The museum is open Thursday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and DVDs of Perry’s presentation are available for purchase. Each sale supports the museum.
