MIKE BARRETT’S GARAGE DOORS Florence • 541-991-0367 CCB# 79598 ‘Raw Canvas’ returns to Playhouse this weekend For one weekend only, the Florence Playhouse hosts a return engagement of Fools Haven theater company’s production of “Raw Canvas,” a one-woman play written by Diane-Barratt Walton and starring Nancy Hopps, as well as “Bits and Pieces: Theatre of the Absurd.” An evening performance is set for Saturday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m., and there will be a mati- nee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16. Performers in “Bits and Pieces” are veteran actors Joe Cronin and Judith Roberts, with newcomer Chris White. “Raw Canvas” is a one- hour play, the personal saga of an artist. Hopps plays Rosalyn, an aspiring painter in Paris in 1952. She is deciding whether to stay and pursue her passion for paint- ing — and face an uncertain future as a bohemian artist — or to return to a comfortable married life in Canada. As she awaits the van that will take her and her toddler son to the ship home, she vividly unfolds her memo- ries, her feelings and her vision. Hopps says, “Rosalyn’s words help me to remember that every moment is a moment of choice.” Playwright Walton’s artist mother-in-law was the model for the story. Walton tailored the play to the talents of her friend Hopps, and asked Roberts to direct. The Florence Playhouse is at 208 Laurel St. in Old Town, Florence. The performance is recom- mended for mature audi- ences. Tickets are $13, and may be purchased at the door or at On Your Feet with a Splash and Best for Hearing.
