Jennings, Mack and Sewell stayed over in Wallowa Sat urday night on their way home from Portland, where they went as delegates to the State and Con gressional Convention. They ex pressed themselves as highly pleas ed with the State and Congression al ticket. What is the matter with P. D. McCully for joint representative? He's all right and the way the Re publicans of Wallowa will treat him at the polls will eclipse any thing ever seen in Wallowa county with the exception of the way the Republican brethren turned out to vote at the recent Lostine primar ies. lion Peter Fordney, of Paradise was in Wallowa Monday shaking hands with his friends. He left in the afternoon for Portland to at tend the Democratic convention. The members of O. E. S. of Wal lowa who attended the Eastern Star lodge of Enterprise, Saturday night express themselves as highly pleased with the reception given tneui by their sisters and brothers of Enterprise. James Burleigh and J. S. Smith left Wallowa Tuesday morning for Portland to attend the Democratic Convention. B. M. Rounsavell was elected councilman Monday evening at the meeting of the council. The Modern Woodmen of Amer ica are talking of erecting a lodge hall in Wallowa. It will take $15- 00 to complete the b i lir.g accord ing to the plans and specifications of the architect. A new candidate has announced himself in the per-cn of O'.i.i'l.'s Loekhart for constab . lie will run on the prohibiti-iu ticket. Prof. Carleton of Joseph has been employed as principal of the Wal lowa public i-chin 1 for next. year. The Prof, comes highly recommend ed and will no doubt prove himself to be the right man in the light place. Fred Fitzpatrick, the Lostine merchant, made Wallowa a visit last Sunday evening. The fall sown grain on the hills north of Wallowa is in excellent condition and there will no doubt be a good crop raised this year. There will be a new 50 cent res taurant opened np in Wallowa in a few days. The propiietor form ly run the l. P. hotel at Dillon, Montana. Toe fishing season has again opened and several of our sports men have reported fine catches. Arthur Bishop and wife visited Fnterprise the latter part of la.t week. Melvin Tully was on the tick list the first of the week but at latt accounts was improving. The star baseball club under the management of J. P. Morelcck is itching for a game with some other club. Now is the time for the En terprise baseball dub to get a rep utation. FRUITA. The warm weather is causing the river to rise. Born April 2. a son, to the wife John Mleavans. Murat Lleavans returned frofh the valley the 4th. Shepard Morgan made a flying trip to the valley the last of the week. M. P. Thompson and wife have been suffering with la grippe. Uncle John Thompson was driv ing on the Fruita street the 3rd. Wm. Neadham went down to the lower Imnaha the 4th. A representative of the Imnaha river started to the county scat to attend county court, to ask im provements on the road which is much needed. PARADISE. Mrs. McXeal is believed to bo slowly reeevering, under the skill ful treatment of Dr. Temple. Nearly every one has had the grip in this neighborhood. Grandpa Akin is quite poorly at present with grip, as are also L. C. Akin and wife and C. D. Akin. The grass on the range is look ing quite green and stock will soon enjov the effects of it. FLORA. Miss Mary Jones and brother were over from Grouse the first of last week. Mrs. llamanon gave a party April 1st in the afternoon in. honor of her grandson, Atthur Maker's seventh birthday. Refreshments were served, and games were play ed. About fifteen little folks spent a very pleasant afternoon. Lorenzo Racon recivod word by phone last Wednesday evening of the death of a niece in Maker City. Orlando Gowey moved his fam ily to the W. II. Makvr plac" in Arko last Thursday. Saturday was G. A. R. and W. R. C. day in Flora. There seemed to be a goodly turnout. Mr. Oliver and family, formerly resicien's oi i-nst l'rairie are re turning to their ranch. A Mr. Mrown who has been in the community gathering facts and data for a writeup of Wallowa county, left Sunday. Miss Mable Robinson who has leen visiting in Wallowa, returned Friday. Four members graduated from the Junior and entered the Ep worth League Sunday evening. They were Walter Buzzard, and the Misses Prudence Eddlemon, Eula Matthew and Ruth Maker. Mr. Wilsey who has been plow ing on the Fordney place in Lost Prairie returned home Friday. Peter Fordney was s-mt to Port land last week to attend the Dem ocratic state convention. Prof. Mums moved his family back into town last week. The Prof, commenced a term of school at Arko Monday. Mr. Wood drove the staco in from Lostine Friday. A Wallowa county teacher who taught a term of school in our part of the comity, made the remark that even our apples tasted back-' woodish. We may bo "backwood ish," but we have men here that can be neither coaxed, bought nor scared into doing what they think to be wrong. Examination Program.
