The dance given by the High school orchestra on Christmas night was largely attended and a a good time is reported. Miss Mabel Fuller, 7th and 8th grade teacher in the Heppner school, departed for Portland on Tuesday to spend the week. Duran was up from Lex ington on Friday and disposed of about 200 pounds of pecans sent him by his father who resides in Texas. Mrs. Nell Redfield spent Christmas at the home of her mother, Mrs. Eleanor Cameron, returning to Pendleton Tuesday morning. Loy Turner is spending the Christmas vacation with his par ents, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Turner. He came up from Corvallis last Friday evening. A happy Christmas was spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Farnsworth in Heppner. All the members of the family were present with the exception of Frank P. and wife who reside in the Okanogan country in North eren Washington and could not come on account of duties which detained them there. Those present to enjoy the festivities of the season were: Mrs Lutie Young, of Hot Lake; Wm. Beymer and ! wife, of Monument; Ed. Farns worth and wife, of Rhea's Siding; Carl Farnsworth and wife, of Monument; and L. E. Bisbee and wife, of Heppner. W. P. Dutton and wife enter tained the following guests for Christmas at their home in Hepp ner: Mrs. Homer Hallock, and her two daughters, Mrs. James Welch and Miss Alma Hal lock, and two sons, Blaine and Joe Hallock, Will H. Dutton and wife and young son. The guests arrived from Portland Saturday evening and returned Tuesday morning. A sumptuous Christ mas dinner at 4 p. m. on Monday was a fitting climax to the pleasures of this family reunion. The skating rink opened up on Tuesday evening, and a picture show will also be run in connec tion therewith. That horrible old music box was also started, and is shouting forth intermittent snatches of worn out airs much to the delight (?) of a suffering populace. There should be some relief from this even if it has to be "McNamaraized." The New Year should mark the beginning of much work in Mor row County. Commercial clubs and booster organigations should do some effective work. Let the Commercial Club of Heppner start the ball rolling by selecting a good secretary, and then keep everlastingly at it. There are good things in store for us if we go after them. The firm of Beach & Allyn, of Lexington, are sending out some nice calendars to their friends and patrons, accompanied by New Year's greetings. These people have worked up a nice trade in their line and are men deserving of the success with which they are meeting. Wallace W. Smead will con tinue in charge of the Heppner post-office, having been named for that place by President Taft. Wallace has held the job for two terms and this is his third appoint ment. He is receiving the con gratulations of his friends. From reports snow is beginning to pile up in the mountains and there should be an abundance of reserve moisture stored up in the timber belt during the next few weeks. On the foot-hills and low lands, however, there is need of much more precipitation. Hendricson and wife during the week. A. L. Ayers and wife returned from a visit lives in Portland. Mr. Beach has about entirely re covered from his long illness and is again able to take up his busi ness affairs. A serious spell of typhoid, followed by other com plications, put him off duty for several months. A fashion note says that belts, gloves and neckties of rattle snake skin will be worn a good deal by women this winter. We knew the poor rattlesnake would come to it sooner or later. It was about the only varmint left that women did not wear.
