Postmaster Smead returned Saturday evening from a visit to the Portland rose show. While there he wasamemoer oi the postmasters convention and took pai t in the deliberations of that body. W. S. Wharton and wife spent several dava in Portland the past week, return ing home on Tuesday evening. Be-ud taxing in the Hose Festival, Mr. Wnai ton attended a meeting of the State Bankers Association. The regular meeting of the Morrow County Farmers' Union win be held at the courtbonse in Heppner, Saturday June 20. as business of importance is to be brought up for consideration. James Murtha got in Monday after noon with the last load of the clip of 50,000 pounds of wool from the flocks ol ftlurtlm & Monahan, Uockcrefk sheep men. These men live within 12 miles cf Condon, bat it is better hau ing in the direction of Heppner. and they hud a better market here also. Dr. and Mrs. F. E. Boyden and Dr. and Mrs. M. B. Metzler departed Saturday morning for Roseburg, Oregon, by auto. Dr. Bovden and wife will take the train at that point for San Francisco where the doctor goes to attend a medical conven tion, and the Metzlers will return to Heppner with the machine. Remember that the free band conceit in the grove at lone July 4 from 7 :45 p. m. to 8:45 p. in. will he worth your time to bear, if von don't get home till morning. The band will be assisted by some oi the best talent in .Monow county. The con cert will consist of band, piano, duetts, solos and iuat tte o.usin. 2t. A litile spreading oir of the forces would firing more beneficial results. Our esteemed fnend, D. C Ely, i still eontined to his liomj i.i l ine bv sickness. This is the sixth week of his illness and he has not been stiie to leave his tied ; in fact, he has not been well at any time since returning from his labors as ser-geant-at-8'tin of the legislature the past winter. His children have all been at bis bedside at in'ervali during his. sick ness to render their aid and ssmpathy, and he has been thoughtfully rared for by h;s neighbors. The nature of his ill ness is such that he w ill have to patient ly wear it out and we are pleased to note tiiat the prospects for his recovery are getting better day by day.
