Morrow county leads the world. Barnes' Big Show Coming To Heppner, Wed nesday May 17 Ibis is the only real wild animal cir cus on earth. There ate trained ani trial shows and circuses that advertife trained wild anim l-t as features of their exhibilio , but the IU nes show is the only circus in the world that presents a performance 1 .stng nearly two hours given by over 200 jungle and forest bred wild animals, trained to do the acts usually done by human beings. There are lions, tigers, bears, leopards, eto., that peiform marvelous feats of horsemanship, jumping on and off the backs of horses dabbing around the ring at fall speed, through hoops, over hur dles and through blazing circles of fire in a manner that would put the stars of the circus equestiian world to shame. It would require columns to descrihe all the many thrilling sights in this won derful exhibition. In addiion to the performance of the wild animnis, Mr. Barnes presentB a complete dog and pony circu, assisted by goats, sl eep, pigc, etc. There is riot a dull moment during the petf jrmance, and at the ter mination, every auditor goes f rth filled with admirati in for the man whose gen ius and patience has brought all the many va ieties of wild ard ferocious beasts under his control and taught them to understuud and obey his slight est wish. Every performance is given under the direction ami supervision , of Mr. Al G Barnes, the wotld's greatest animal king. Ye Scribe had the pleasure of witnessing the ball game betwixt Condon and lone, last Saturday. Condon put it al) over lone, 8 to 7 A dauce was given in the evening, in honor of the visiting team, music was furnished by Messrs A. & A. W. Lundell. Aside from a few disturbances by the unru.y set, the evening was much enjoyed by al). A game was played Sunday by the same teams, which resulted in Condon being badly defeated, the score being 10 to 5 io favor of the home team. Huzza for lone ! Heap Savvy. duetM, and Mrs. Winnard sang two solos. The Stampher sisters have many warm friends In Heppner. As man ngers of the Heppner Sanatorium they have been very successful, and they leave here much to the regret of all whose pleasure it has been to know them. Leander Pavid is the proud possessor of a fine new oornet. It is one of the latest Vooa models and an instrument to be proud of. Mrs. Lauretti Leezer arrived from Portland on Tuesday evening for a short visit with Heppner friends. She is a guest at the home of R. F. Hyud. Gooseberry Pi. T. W. Morgan commenced plow ing last Motiday morning. Etnil Carlson finished up etim merfallowing last woek. Lucky Emil! M ss Olive Anderson is on the road to Wellville again, after her long illness. A number of the old folks in our vicinity surprised Mrs. Erik Eerg etrom on her 51st birthday last Saturday afternoon. E. Bergstrouj and C. E. Lundell went to Heppner early Monday morning, to be present at conven ing of Circuit court. Fifteen hundredths (.15) of an inch of rain was registered in our rain gauge Monday morniDg. It seems that the long dry spell is going to give place to a little rain, we hope so, at any rate. Quite a thunder storm last Sun day evening. Telephone bells were tingled by the lightning. This is dangerous; switches should be provided so that the current may be grounded during these storms, thus eliminate danger from fire. Don't forget the Uuion meeting next Saturday evening at 7:30. Candidates haying presented their application for membership, please come and take a ride on Billie. Don't forget to bring your spurs along. Treasurer's Notice. Maxwell, a 20-m IS Administrator. Farewell Parties and Reception. Miss Josefa Stampher was guest of honor at a, very pleasant party fit the home of Mrs. F. E; Hoyden last Thursday afternoon. Thursday eve ning, Dr. anil Mrs. Boyden and Dr. and Mrs. Metzler entertained in hon or of Miss Teresa Stampher and Mr. and Mrs. K. F. Hynd. The Misses Stampher are leaving for Oswego, and the Hynds are to move to Port land In a few weeks. From 3 to 5:30 Friday afternoon, Mrs. S. E. Van Vaetor held a recep tion in honor of the Misses Stampher. About 150 invitations were sent out and the attendance numbered about 100. The house was appropriately decorated. Mrs. C. A. Minor served the punch, being assisted by Misses Huddleston, Cameron, and Craw ford. Mrs. Van Vaetor and Miss J. Stampher received. Mrs. Metzler and Mrs. Boyden played some piano A number of members of Ilepo uer Lodge, No. 69, A. F. & A. M. visited with lone Lodge No. 120 on Wednesday evening and assisted iu third degree work. After work in the lodge room the visitors were invited to sit down to a splendid feed at the lone hotel along with the wives and daughtersof the lone brethren. The visit was a real treat to the Heppner Masous. The trip was made by automobiles. Mrs. Anna Gsult has arrived from Chicago and has taken charge of the Ileppuer Sanitorium. Mrs. Gault was head nurse of the Chi cago Policlinic and Hospital and stands well at the head of her pro fession. TheStatnpher sisters who have been iu charge of the Hepp ner institution for the pant several years, go to Oswego, Oregon, apd will have charge of a hospital there. They were popular and well liked by the Heppner people and rxada mauy friends here, and iu their departure take with them the best wishes of our people for their con tinued success in their chosen profession.
