He will interest the non phurch goer. He is more serious than a fuueral. He ia more amus ing than a circus. He'll make you laugh and then make you cry be. cause you laughed. Through it all you will hear the plain, common straight truth preached as yen rarely ever hear it. If you don't hear him he'll make you regret that you did not. Hear him; bus-" peod your opinion until the end, then tell me what you think of "Wild Bill Evans." W. A. Obr. Pastor South Methodist church. Word was received in this city the latter part of last week of the death of Mrs. Percy Williams, for meily Miss Gertrude Bishop of this city, at her home in McKit trick, Cal. Death was caused from typhoid fever and occurred Wed nesday morning, April 14. Mrs. rYilliams leaves two email chit dren and a husband, besidesfather, mother and brother, who are in California to mourn her untimely end. Gertrude Bishop was the daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed. R. Bishop, old time residents of Morrow county, and as a girl in Heppner was known and loved by all. She had a heart that was overflowing with warmth and fellow feeling for ner associates and a kind word for eyery one she knew. Never a child, from the highest to the poor esc in tnis world s goods escaped her notice and it is these traits that has caused a tender memory to be emblazoned upon the minds of all who bad the good fortune to be affiliated with her. To know her was to love her her twenty-seven years on this earth, being born in August, 1881 has been that of the purest and noblest of girlhood into the high est and truest sense of womanhood She was married three years ago to Percy Williams of McKittrick and to that union two children have been born. From our asso ciations in early life, we can truly say that the husband has lost wife and the babies a mother whose place can never be filled on this earth. G. C. The biggest deal is that of the Penland Land & Livestock Co. The company has contracted to deliver 23,000 fleeces. Jack Devore, Elder & Gentry; and Jas. Farley have also contract ed their clips. F. Frankenstein, representing Hecbt, Liebmaon & Co. of Boston consumated the above deals. Frank Lee has contracted for the Andrew Neel clip, of Lone Bock. This is a fine lot of woo and brought 20 cents. Pat Farley, of the Willows, has contracted his clip of 18,000 pounds to Charles Green for 14 cents. This sale is remarkable be cause of the fact that the price is Dearly three times that received last year for the same wool, last year's price being 5 1-4 cents. The wool sold is all sand grade and the record 300 per cent in crease in the sales price is due to the fact that weather conditions have been almost ideal this year as compared to those of last year. and that wool up the time of the sale was fairly free from sand. According to a canvass of wool men in Baker county just finished ail wool for the year 1909 has been contracted. The last sales were made for 17 cents a pound to a .Boston nrm. I his will practio tically nullify the wool sales days appointed by the State Association for Baker. GROCERY PED DLERS BUSY Making Their Regular An- nual Cleanup in This i Vicinity. They are selling groceries this time and are making big profits. A Morrow county farmer who bought over $100 worth of goods from these fakers .after receiving his bill and taking a careful in voice and making a general com parison with the regular every day prices -of local merchants, found that he had been cleverly buncoed The farmer had been led to be leve that he could save money by buying of the peddler and follow ing the suggestion of good busin- iness methods gave the order. But the bill of the goods tells a silent but different story from that represented by the peddler. The farmer, io ordar to further satisfy himself brought a carbon copy of the bill of goods to a local merchant of Heppner. The bill is too lengthy to publish in full, but below we publish enough to gether with a comparison of Hepp ner prices to be effective argument without farther comment: f. i.XSJSU 1t GRAPES, from their most health- f properties, give ROYAL its active and principal ingredient Local Merchant 25 Iba Jap. Total 'IT No one questions the right" of any peisen to buy in the cheapest market, and from a cold blooded business standpoint, facts remain the same. liigid investigation will show that groceries are sold on a close margin in Heppner, the same as in other places. Now is it reasonable that a job ber or a merchant in Spokane can send three or four men on a salary or commission, a distance of 300 miles to territory where the field is small, and do business without making a big profit The table above taken right from an actual peddler's bill, given to local merchant by the man who purchased the goods and a com parison drawn from every day prices will speak for itself. Notwithstanding the fact that the local dealer is a part of the community and must bear the bur dens of local government, he could Dot continue in business by misrepresentation. Oo the other haod the peddler cares nothing for the future in this ocality for as soon as he collects his money he is oft for pastures new. ES&Idnt?
