Local and Personal Notes. Death of Mrs. Shipley. School Notes. .. Glasses Bom's. properly ntted at P. Mrs. Lydia Jane Shipley, wife of George Shipley, died at tbe family home iu this city, of paralysis, Monday mornintr, aged 59 years, 3 months tind 12 days. Deceased wat an early Oregon pioneer having crosHod the pkitiH to Oregon in 1852, comiog from her native state Iudiaua. Io 1874 she whs married to Geo. Shipley. In 1882 tbey moved to Morrow county. She leaves a husband and eight children. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. V. Crawford at the fam ily home, Wednesday. The re mains were laid at rest iu the Hepp ner cemetery. Dr. Alexander Raid has located in this city. Gustof Sbultz, a former resident of Portland, has moved to his farm four miles south of town and will locate permanently in Morrow county. Dr. F. B. Kistne'', who has been in Portland attending hit) wife's mother, Mr. Brnton Killio, has returned to this city and has re sumed his practice. A Koffee. A Koffre will be perved at tbe home of Mrs. N. "Williams, Wednesday. Wm. Rey nolds and Guy Hadley acted as witnesses. Rev. J. M. L. Hoyle, pastor of M. E. church at Lexington, will preach at Butter creek next Sun day morning at 11 o'clock and at 7 in the evening. Rev. Hoyle will bold services at 3 o'clock in the afternoon at Pine City. But there is no revenue in sight to meet the inter est on the 25,000 bonds already issued and the situation financially is not very satisfactory. Several schools in the county are plan ninit to have celebrations of the hun dredth anniversary of the birth of Lin coln and the fiftieth anniversary of the admiteion of Oregon. Of coarse, Wash ington's birthday will not be overlooked. The writer visited the Hardman school Thursday and Friday of last week. Prof. C. H. Poole, Mrs. Harriet Robison, and Miss .Belle Miller are the teachers. Since the opening of the third room, the work u progressing much more satisfactorily. The school building is a neat, substan tial, four room building. If tbe school continues to grow, it will be only a short time until tbe fourth room will be occa pied. The rooms are well lighter ; tbe furniture is good, the blackboards are of good quality. The teachers are earnest and enthusiastic in their work. They are determined to make the school one of the best io. the count). The,? have the hearty co operation of the echool board. Friday sfterooon bad been designated as "parents' da-." Several parents, including two members of th schoo1 board, visited the school. If all the parents in Hardman Knew how much the teachers and pupils appreciate these visits, thev would see that their names appeared on the roil of vi&itors more frequently. Friday evening, a local educational meetfng was held at the church. The pupils of trie school entertained the peo ple present with songs and recitations. All acquitted themselves with credit. Miss Miller read a paper on ' The Pub lic School". The writer talked upon the topic, "Ideas and Ideals."
