Mr. Freeland always has good houses and he always gives satisfaction. His apparatus always works right, he always has the very latest views and songs and his singing is excellent. Be it enacted bv the Legislative Assembly of the State of Oregon : Be it aluo enacted by the People of the State of Oregon : Section 1. That section 1968, chapter VIII of Bellinger and Cotton's An notated Statutes of Oregon be and the same hereby is amended so as to read as follow : Sec. 1968. If any person shall keep open any store, shop, grocery, bowling alley, bil iard room, or tippling house, for the purpose of labor or traffic, or any place of amutement, on the first day of the week, commonly called "Sunday" or the "Lord's Day." such person upon conviction thereof, shrdl be punished by a fine not less than So nor more than 850. Provided, however, that the above provision shall not apply to theaters, the keepers of drug stores, doctor shops, undertakers, livery stable keepers, Dutchers, and bakers ; and all circumstances of necessity and mercy may be pleaded in defense, which shall be treated as questions of fact for the jury to determine when the offense is tried bv jury. j Paused the senate February 4, 1903.
