The Heppner public scholia closed Tuesday for the holidays with appropri ate exercises. Both teachers and Btudents, in antici pation of a merry time, had been work ing hard to make the exercises inter esting, and the result was a merry time indeed. The intense interest taken by the students made the work easier for the teachers. There were a large number of visitors and all were highly pleased, the older persons Rpeming to be en thused with the inspiration of childhood which was everywhere apparent. In order to furnish better accommo dation", exercises were held in every room. In Miss Cation's room, the little tots with sparkling eves and "faces of real happiness were pleased with a very pretty Christmas tree covered with presents and haudsome decorations. In Mrs. Freeland's room more of the little folks wera entertained with a rea live Santa Claus in all his splendor. In the different rooms there were ap propriate exercises for the older stu dents which reflected credit upon bo'h students and teachers. The literary exercises were , good. While marked ability was shown, care ful and system training by modern methods was a feature that was notice able. The teachers deserve great credit. In the Bel?'ction of instructors, thi com munity i8 fortunate." Heppner should feel justly proud of her public echo I. z3 m3, v HoaMMa LEXINGTON NEWS. John White's new residence is almost completed.
