Prairie City, Ore., July 31. Never in the history of this section of the coun try was there such activity in the mak ing of timber locations as there is at present. The woods are full of timber cruisers and all the available tracts are being taken. This is among the best timber sections of the interior, and lands are eagerly sought. Probably the keenness with which the timber men are after the lands here is largely due to the fact that there is every indication of a railroad beiog con structed into this section in the near future. Through this fact business of all kinds is rapidly improving. The railroad situation is exceptionally bright. The Sumpter Valley road is be ing extended to Austin, about 15 miles from Prairie City. Near Austin a new townsite is being located, and indica tions are that a lively town will spring up thete. It is rumored the road will soon be extended on in this direction, being hraded for Canyon City. SCHOOL KF.I'OICTS. Kastern Oregon Countie Show letter Conditions. The IVcw I'ope.
