Giger. Assessor Strain's assessment of the O. R. & N. in Umatilla county has been practically completed and shows a raise from about $4(00 per mile to $13,000 per mile. The railroad company is expected to carry the matter to the board of equalization of this county and further if necessary, but Assessor Strain says he will stick to the assessment, on which he has been working for montns. Strain's theory is that railroad property should be assessed on an equal basis with real estate and personal property, and as everything is being assessed at one third of the selling price in Umatilla county this year, the railroad has come in for a heavy raise.
