UEAKE In this city, Monday, Decern- tr 33, P02, to Mr. and Mtb. J. II. iiirrruxF.ii mo.n Tin: i:ajt. W. O. Elinor llrinjrs Out a, Ship ment of Fine Cattle. W. O. Minor, tine stock breeder and merchant, returned Monday evening, from Chicago and the East, where he has been attending the International Fat Stock show, and also looking over the fine?t show herds of Eastern and foreign bred Shorthorns tojadd to hie already treat herd. Mr. Minor's cattle, Rolando, the first prize winner at the big stock show, and the yearling heifer Nellie, that was shown last fall at the Western lairs, and Pride's l'.aron III, a 2 year-old, were shippe d over the Oregon Short Line from lleppner to Chicago, on the loth of last month. Mr. Minor started on November 121st. lie went over the Northern Pacific to Hillings, Montana, an 1 from thete over thn lUirimgton to Cedar Kapid.s, Iowa, where i,e stopped over a couple of days to visit relatives, arriving in l hicago, on the tith inst. Mr. Minor says that he wa an attent ive and observing specator at the great International Fat Stock show, and says ihut it was a gre.it sciiool for any stock man who would studv ids lesson. About !0t) head of registered Short- ,,om( Hereford and Angus cattle were on exhibition from the finest herds in . II i 1 ..v.Mfw.i.t. the worm. With L he great number of ea'tle fiom 1 the best herd- all over the United States, Canada, and Scotch mid English bred aniinuls, it is certainly gratifying to Or- goii people to unow that Buiaiido, b.ed by Mr. Minor, on his Mountain Vaiiev stock farm, in Morrow county, took lirsi premium, and brought 'lie highest price of any animal put up at public auction. liolando w 8 purchased by E. W. Boweu.of Delphi, Indiana, a well known breeder, who will place this line hull at the head oi his great show herd. Mr. Bowen's herd is one of the finest in the United States, taking !-econd premium at the big show. liolando, in the yeaidng class was an easy winner, piomintntiy outclassing all competitors. His official weight was 1S30 pounds in the show ring, only los ing -'0 pounds in sh.pun'iit fiom llepp ner to Chicago. When BoUndo was led imo the show ring by Mr. Carotiiers, Mr. Minor's herdsman, and the biue nbbuu was be ing awarded, .Mr. Minor was suirL-ed to hear some one away back in the audiance speak out in a wry loud tone of voice, "Hurrah for O.egjn." It proved to be a Washington man who was very enthusiastic in congratulating Mr. Minor on his great success. Rolando was the only one of Mr. Mi nor's cattle txir. bhed, the olher two be ing sold at good figures. Mr. Minor's visit was not only to show his line stock, but to improve his show herd by adding soms of the t'o-t blood that money could buy f:o;n the choicest stock in the world. In all he bought l )load, six of the animals being show call e, which C'jt-t ifoTOO. He purchased two show heifers, one bred in Kentucky, and the ether in Indiana, both being in-ide of the mon ey at the big show. For one of there fine hei'ers he paid :fl.y0. One of the cows, Stella, from the heid of N. P. Clark, St. Cloud. Minn., which Mr. Minor will bring o:it. took f-econd premium last year in the '2 year-old c'a-s at the fat stock show Mr. Minor's choice of the new herd purchased is Orange Blossom, a year- ling heifer bred by X. P.Clark. He considers this the best yearling heifer in America, and her purchase price was U1500. Twocf the yearling heifers are straight Scotch bred, and are very fine animals. Three of the calves are plainly bred calves for range bulls. Mr. Minor was the only extreme Wee tern breeder exhibiting stock at the big show. Mr. Minoi'fl Mountain Valley Stock Farm is one of the big institutions of Morrow county. His registered herd now numbers about 125 head and they are valued at $30,000; at least this amount of money would hardly buy the herd today. His fine etock farm con sists of 1 GOO acres of the finest land. He has 40 acres in alfalfa aud will put in 40 acres race next year. Mr. Minor's herd now contains more champion blood, is larger and more val uable than any other herd of Shorthorns on the Pacific coast. The Prid Of Heroes.
