The sheep and wool market in Happ nr continues to be qnitt, and indica tions are that there will not be much doing for some time, until Hie lambing season is over, however, nljeepmen ex peet buyers to come in before the sea son arrive, to take the klieep to the mountains, which will be from the mid die to thb latter part of May. Lsmbioirand shearing Is now occupy ing the attention of sheepmen in -Mor row coantr. Very few sheep sales are reporteJ. A small number of yearling wethers bays been sold for $1.05 per bead. Mixed lots of yearling have been bringing (1.85. Following wool sales are reported : M. 8. Corrigal of Butler creek, 70,000 pounds at 8?4 cents per pound. Herb Bartholomew, 70,000 pounds at 9 cent. James and John Carty, 40,000 pounds at 8 centc. Jobn and Frank Kilkenny, 40,000 pounds at 7? cenu. Doherty and MeDaid, 60.000 pounds at 8'i cents. Sales of a few smeller lota are re ported. This wool was all purchased by E. H. Clark for the Pendleton Scouring Milln. Anteloee lieiald: A large number of homes are being broken here and put in condition for delivery to the buyers for cavalry service, tbe last week of tbis month. They bring from $30 to $40 per head. Condon Times : Reports from many 6heep can )t in Gilliam countv are to the effect that laoibit u has been a suc cess and flockmaeterH are adding a large increace to thtir flocks otne of them nearly 100 per cent. This is good news, aa the weather has ben extreme'y cold lately and graft lias been rather short. The neit thing owners of sheep have to contend With is marketing the wool and tbe prevalence of scab in so many bands will be inclined to lower the price of that product where it had to be dipped for the disease. Kheepmen in Gilliam county will see to it that scab is kept out of their bands in future. American Wool and Cotton Keporter: Hlieep men of Idaho will make money tbis year. The fleece is unusually heavy; it mill be five to eight pounds a head, or fully 25 per cent above the average, and it will be ot finer, evener staple than usual, and will bring a bet ter price per pound. The sheep, too, have wintered well. They are fat and rounded, an.) of good weight. The lambing, so far, indicates a big percent age of latnhs, and a vigorous and healthy crop. The winter loeaea weis light. This is due primarily to the weather, that has been unusually mild, and also to the practical extirpation of scab. There is very little scab in Idaho. Out of the hundreds of bands in Blaine county, only one has been quarantined, and another hurried to tbe dipping tanks. Of individual cases there are verv few. In another year there may be no acab in Blaine coun'y. LEXINGTON NEWS. I.F.xistsTON, April 23, 102. R. A. Niebol's baby is He sick with pneumonia. Mis. T. GEKEBAL SCMaUBY. Good rains have fallen daring the past week in all portions of tbe state. . Bather more rain than is needed has occurred in the wes tern section, but in the eastern section it was welcomed. Not withstanding the rains there has been considerable sanhine, and up to the last .two days of the week the weather was Vuild and very favorable for advancing the growth of vegetation. On Satar day it turned cooler, and frost was reported. The wet weather has retarded spring seeding of oats and wheat in the Willamette valley and to a leaser extent in southern Oregon, bnt this work is now fairly well advanced and with the advent of a few warm, dry, days it will be quickly finished. In eastern Ore gon seeding is practically finished and the farmers are Lnpily en gaged in plowing. Tbe rains have done great gond in the sections of Umatilla county where the wheat was winter-killed, and the reseed ed areas are now looking much better than they did a couple of weeks agn, Fall whent has etooled well and is iu a healthy and thrifty condition in all factions of the state, except that its color is bad in some poorly drained localities in the Willamette valley. In eastern Oregon the hoik of the wheat ciop this year is fall sewn, excluding the Grande Ronde val ley aad about half ot Umatilla county, which is spring seeded on pummer-fallowed land. Grass has ruad a splendid growth daring the week and con sequently stock hrii improved very much, and the Mow of milk in tbe dairy sections has proportionately increased.
