This is forcibly demon strated in the statement made b the Portland IIlgrp -7 P Governor T. r. orfl"cuouS contemplating akinr np rews paper work." The yover..t,r' ability as an interesting writer is well known, and he can look fo sticcess in his new venture. He has not yet decided whether to purchase a newspaper or to join the staff cf some metropolitan journal. Mr. Smith, the well-known apple, raiser, who has made Hood River apples famous all over the United States, recently made a trip through Willamette Valley, speaks intelligently of the con ditions and prospects of this crop in this part of the stale. His verdict is forcible, though severe. He says: "They could raise as good apples through this valley as we do in Hood River, if the farmers were not too lazy to take take care of their trees." Ranch ers of Benton county, is this statement correct? There is one man in the coun try who has certainly followed to the best of his ability, President Roosevelt's advice and cannot be accused of race suicide.
