Such people are the meanest specimens o f depraved humanity which alNwise Providence permits to exist on this cursed earth. It is well known that almost every per* son is sometimes disposed to speak evil o f others; and tattling is a sin from which very few can claim to be entirely exempt But the object o f our present article is to speak o f that distinct class o f tattlers who make tale bearing the Constant business o f their lives. They pry into the private .-iffairs of every fani- ily in »he neighborhood ; th**y know the exact state ot one neighbor’s feeling* to ward* another; they understand every body’s faults, and no little blunder or misdemeanor ever escapes their vigilant watchfulness. They are particularly well posted upon eyerythiug conpected with coprtship and piatritnopy ; know jrho are going to marry whom, and can guess the exact time when it will take place. They F«tch every njQmpent o f partie? spspected o f matrimonial inten tions, nn,4 if there is the slightest change to create a disturbance, excite jealousy, or “ brepk up ” a match, they take Im mediate advantage o f it, and do all in tbeir power to keep people in a constant state o f vexation, Th*'y glide quietly from gentleman to lady, from mother to daughter, from father to son, and in the cars o f all they pour their dark, bitter whispers o f slander and abuse, and at the same time pretend to be the most sincere friends o f those they talk to. Their black and nauseous pills o f malic ious slander are sugar-coated with gmiles and honeyed words o f friendship. 'fattier- are confined to pp particular cla$s. They belong tp all classes, and operate in all. W o find them with rich and the poor— “ upper ten” and the “ lotyer million” — in the church and out o f it. They arc people who have no higher ambition than to be well inform ed in reganj to other people’s private business, to retail scandal to their neigh bors, and exult in fiendish triumph over the wounded feelings and bruised hearts of their innocent victims. Beau- less old maids and childless matron? jnake the most accomplished scandal mongers in the world. They seem to take to tattling from the promptings o f a natural instinct, and they prosecute it with an energy that would do infernal hoqor tp their great leader— tbe prince of darkness himself. Qur contempt for Ruch graceless creaturps knows no bounds, and we can find no words in Which to express its infamy. What unishmept they deserve wc cannot n ow ; but God kno??9, and as sure as bis eternal justice reigns, they will re peive a retribution proportioned to the magnitude o f their offenses against the laws o f God and the interests o f human ity- l A d u li n i M ra t o r ’ s N o tic e . tt. Youth abounds pith ardent hopes and cherishes expectation? o f fu ture prosperity, and no way is more ar duous than to paddle the canoe o f their highest dream against the tide, epvy, dubious counsel, and sometimes even public opinion itself. Should a person Relinquish his canoe to the guidance o f others, though they may be his best friends, he is running a risk.
