The Penta Building Group officially opened an office at the Plaza, 3240 Walsey Lane. The project superintendent is Curt Carlsen and the project manager is Bob Martin. They are working with Corey Clements, director of the Job Creation and Development Pro gram, and they are designing a way to bring employment oppor tunities to the Warm Springs community. This is a part o f the con struction of the new casino by the Plaza. The first phase of the pro cess included hiring an office assistant and two general labor positions. These three positions, hired directly through Penta, will ment opportunities and recruit ment will continue to be handled through the Job Creation and Development Program. Anyone with the following skills or interest are encouraged to apply: Masonry, construction, welding, iron work, steel con struction, heavy equipment op erating, dry w all, plum bing, flagger, excavation, roads, elec trical, painting, roofing, fabrica tion, H-Vac, carpentry, mainte nance or other general labor positions. The next phase of .employ- Panel to look at changing Indian royalty oversight (AP) - Now that a $3.4 bil lion settlem ent has been ap proved in a lawsuit over past m ism anagem ent o f N ative American land royalties, a panel is being formed to recommend changes to ensure it doesn't hap pen again. The U.S. Department of the Interior is taking nominees to serve on the five-member Com mission on Indian Trust Admin istration and Reform. In terio r S ecretary Ken Salazar says in a statement that the commission will help evalu ate how the department man ages and administers its trust responsibilities to American In dians. The commission will have two years to make non-binding recommendations. The panel’s formation comes after a judge last month ap proved a $3.4 billion settlement over claims that U.S. officials stole or squandered billions in American Indian land royalties. Lunch and Learn at Clinic The Warm Springs Model Diabetes Program and the Tribal Nutrition Program will present Lunch and Learn from 12 noon to 1 p.m. this Wednesday, Ju ly 13 in the atrium at the Warm Springs clinic. The topic of discus- sion will be “Sugar: The Bit ter Truth.” There will be a video from Dr. R obert Lustig, with discussion of the danger of having too much sugar in foods and beverages. Alcoholics Anonymous will meet this morning at 10:00 in the Family Resources conference room. The M useum at W arm Springs’ U ving Traditions Program is a live demonstration by local artists. This weekend, they will feature horse regalia by Marcia Minthorn from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. The monthly Warm Springs Christian Community Prayer Gathering and Potluck will be held this evening at 6:00 at High Lookee Lodge in the Tribal Room. This gathering takes place on the third Saturday of each month. SUNDAY, JULY 17 The Kah-Nee-Ta Employee Shuttle runs through September 5.
