Child Protective Services hosted the event thsit featured participants walking to the community center from ECE, the Administartion Building and the C PS office. Brunoe awarded for fisheries work Bruce “Mickey” Brunoe was named as a Hall of Fame Award winner by the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission. Brunoe, of Brunoe Togging, received he award for hisexcep tional commitment to putingt fish back in the rivers and pro tecting the watersheds where they live, according to CRITFC. The Hall of Fame Award is presented to four individuals, each representing a tribal mem ber from one of the four Co lumbia Basin treaty tribes. Each tribe selects its own awardee. Brunoe will receive his award at the Seventh Annual Wy-Kan- Ush-Pum gala, a fundraiser for CRITFC’s Spirit of the Salmon Fund. The gala is this Saturday, May 12, from 5:30 toT’6 p.m. at Portland’s Governor Hotel, 611 S.W. lOthAve. “Wy-Kan-Ush-Pum,” from the Sahaptin language common to many Columbia Basin Indian tribes, means “salmon people.” Thè Wy-Kan-U sh-Pum gala includes a salmon dinner featur ing Indian-caught salmon along with silent and live auctions. The aft auction provides an oppor tunity for the Commission to * highlight local and N ative art ists from the Pacific Northwest All proceeds from the event benefit salmon preservation, restoration, and education projects. Others receiving the Hall of Fame Award this year along with Brunoe are Allen Slickpoo Sr. (Nez Perce), Jay M inthorn (Umatilla), and Wilferd Yallup (Yakama). Other award recipients this year are as follows: The Partnership Award, for outstanding efforts to create rich partnerships in the pursuit of salmojQ restoration, goes to the Metro Regional Government for their commitment to pro- Head Start accepting registration applications Warm Springs Head Start is taking applications, for the Head Start 2007-08 school year. Head Start is offering 3- to 4-year-olds a great pm-' school experience. Head Start provides children with activi ties tq grow mentally, socially, emotionally and physically, as well as giving them kindergar ten readiness. Patients who arrive as walk-ins without an appoint ment will have a longer wait than those with an appoint ment that was called in ear lier.
