Spilyay Tymoo P age 2 A pril 27 Katchia is Outstanding Student N ick Katchia was named the Outstanding Student o f the Year at the 31st Annual Conference o f the O regon Indian Education A sso cia tion. Katchia, 16, is a junior at Madras High School. He is a member o f the Youth D e velopment Team at the high school. Katchia earlier this year received a Kiwanis Outstand ing Student award, and was recognized in the “Wow, what a k id !” p ro g ra m o f the Jefferson County D rug Free C oalition and the M adras Pioneer. The county Methamphet- amine Task Force presented Katchia with a Certificate o f Appreciation for the slide- Nick Katchia show presentation that he put together last year. He has made the presentation, titled “ Meth Prez,” to groups o f his peers, adult g ro u p s and the T ribal Youth club open in summer Council. Katchia manages the high school frosh boys JV basket ball team, and is on the JV g o lf team. H e is a m em ber o f the Science Math Investigative L e a rn in g E x p e rie n c e (SM ILE) Club. Katchia received the O r egon Indian Education A sso ciation Outstanding Student o f the Year Award at the organization’s conference this month at Portland State Uni versity. He was nominated for the Outstanding Student award by the Warm Springs Educa tion Committee. N ick lives with his aunt an d u n cle, J o h n and Saphronia Katchia. The Boys & Girls Club o f Warm Sprins has an nounced its summer sched ule. Runners will gather at the Kah-Nee-Ta Village entrance. Registration is at 8 a.m. at the Village front gate. T he 14.5 m ile run will leave at 8:30 a.m. sharp. The mini marathon run will start at Simnasho at 9 a.m. The 10K, 3 mile and one- mile fun run will start at 10 a.m. The G rade School Chal lenge will recognize the class- room s that has the m ost par ticipan ts and b e st overall grade. There will be awards for the top three finishers in each division. Each participant will re ceive a raffle ticket and a pass to the Village pool (valid day o f race only). Registration prices: Pre registration (before April 28) is $12 which includes t-shirt; day o f race registration is $20 with t-shirt.
