Spilydy Tymoo, Warm Springs, Oregon More Letters to the Editor Pool tourney The Central Oregon M en’s Team 8-ball League Champion ship for 2006 belongs to Bosses Office No. 1, the team members are all from Warm Springs. A big congratulations goes out to this dynamite team. Not only did they place first in the league but also in the Elimina tion Tournament. T his same team won first p lace in 2005 m akin g them back-to-back Champs. T he league cham pionship was won outright but the first place elimination event wound up a showdown. The match stayed incredibly tight in a race to 13. When the score reached 12 to 11 Bosses Office, Jerry Bagley was up and he had no intention of allowing the opposition to see anymore daylight and sent them packing after winning the crunch game. Louis Smith topped it off for good measure with an extra vic tory. It was a team effort with the players shooting nearly flaw lessly coming down the stretch. The team players are: first, the two younger rising stars, W illy “The Stick” Bagley, who is the Shot-Maker and most improved along with Louie “Lionheart” Smith, who is Mr. Consistent, a ringer who wins tournaments and/or is always in the money. N ext is Em erson “C h ief” Smith, a Top Gunner who can shoot them down and is also the Team C aptain and Strategic Leader. Jerry “Bags” “The Sil ver Coin” Bagley, the money player. When the game is on the line he’s the team Gunslinger. Then there is Tony “The F lam in g A rro w E x p re ss” Litdeleaf, a player that remains, The One to Beat. The team had one roving sub Levi Van Pelt, a very determined up and coming player w ho m ay just be the leagues Rookie of the Year. O ther top finishing teams were the second place City Slick ers (Jack L ou’s) team . T hird place was a tie between Moose Lodge and VFW (Clint Smith) team whose team players are C lin t S m ith , B illy B egay, Raymond Riddle, Tony Boise, and Tony “Tiger” Van Pelt, a well-deserved congratulations go es o u t to them as w ell. Seegrey. Global warming The news says the tempera ture is getting warmer, which is causing the rapid melting o f the p o lar ice caps and g la c ie rs throughout the planet including at Mt. Hood and the Cascade A pril 13, 2 0 0 6 range. Some scientists are pre d ictin g catastro p h ic c o n se quences. Results are severe drought, floods, and extra forest fires, and also an increase in species that thrive in warm er weather like mosquitoes, tree insects, carp, and suckers, etc. Some species may not sur vive well in warm weather, for instance the salmonoids, which require excellent upstream habi tat and frigid cool water. M any people don’t under stand the value o f old growth trees and the intricate ecosystem they support. Carbon dioxide is one o f the m o st d am agin g greenhouse gases. The trees are crucially important because they absorb a lot of carbon dioxide and keep the earth cooler. The deforestation o f Warm Springs’ forest looks terrible from Highway 26. The trees are thinned and re-thinned. Clear cuts also cause erosion, mud and siltation. Central Oregon may have the nations most rapidly growing population. How many biomass power companies will be pop ping up like the large 20-mega watt Silvan Biomass Power Co. out of Bend. In this region the long-term fight for hog fuel wood to burn in the future may be fierce. Rav aging the resources so a few can prosper is a worldwide problem. People everywhere need to do more. Check out what’s happen ing and realize what could hap pen. Is global warming a false alarm? Well let’s hope for the b est.
