Steve Tool/Chieftain Just a few of several dozen art patrons who attended the Josephy Center’s “Places in Wallowa County” exhibit opening on Jan. 6. First event of 2017 a success, despite weather By Steve Tool Wallowa County Chieftain The Josephy Center opened 2017 with its new exhibit “Places in Wallowa County,” and even inclement weather couldn’t keep sever- al dozen art afi cionados from attending the Jan. 6 opening. The exhibition included works from about a dozen art- ists, in a variety of mediums, depicting various Wallowa County scenes. Tim Norman, vice president of the center’s Board of Trustees, juried the show while local painter Mike Koloski suggested the theme. Center director Cheryl Coughlan, who had a photo- graph in the exhibition, said that about 110 pieces of art were submitted for consid- eration with 35 making Nor- man’s cut. “(Norman) wanted to make sure there was a wide variety of different types of images and different mediums,” she said. She added that winter is an optimum time to promote local artists with local themes. Joseph Charter School sophomore Tori Suto won the People’s Choice award for the show with an ink drawing of a portion of her school. • Open auditions for Oklahoma!, MidValley Theatre Company, Jan. 15-17, 6-8 p.m., Lostine Presbyterian Church.
