Kelly Wick closes gallery — for now JOSEPH — After 20 years of operating an art gallery on Main Street in Joseph, Kelly Wick isn’t ex- actly calling it quits, but she is taking a definite break. “I’m taking a sabbati- cal,” Wick said. “I don’t know how long it will be. It could be just one season. I don’t know.” Kelly’s Gallery, a year- round business which was located the past 13 years at 103 N. Main, closed on Jan. 1. Wick, who estimates she has represented 60 to 70 art- ists over the years, said she was providing that service for 45 at the time the physi- cal gallery closed its doors. “I’ll still do some online (representation) for some of them,” she added. In light of the gallery’s closure, locals may wonder what will become of “Baby Steps,” the popular Austin Barton bronze sculpture of a mother horse and foal that’s located in the busi- ness courtyard. Wick says she has no plans to move the affectionate-looking bronze pair. “I am going to leave those there, ... at least for a while.” And speaking of horses, Wick said she plans to spend more time horseback riding. She added: “The mountains are calling.” Husband Ken Wick, a Realtor whose office is lo- cated next door to the re- cently closed art gallery, will not be stepping back from his business activity, Kelly said. She said she wants the public to know that her business’ hiatus arises from nothing that can be nega- tively construed. “I’m not sick. It’s not financial. I’m just taking a break. It’s been a wonderful go for me.” Book Sale and Bake Sale, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Wallowa Senior Center. Fundraiser by Friends of the Wallowa Library. Baked goods, pie sold by the slice, coffee and tea.
