RECORDS Wednesday, February 1, 2017 PUBLIC SAFETY LOG MONDAY 7:45 a.m. - Cemetery locks and a door were damaged over the weekend at the cemetery on Milton Cemetery and Grant roads, Milton-Freewater. 8:21 a.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office was advised of an assault that occurred on Tootie Lane, Milton-Freewater. 8:21 a.m. - An employee of J & D’s Mini Mart, 111 S.W. Birch St., Pilot Rock, requested a welfare check on an elderly man sitting on a bench outside the store who appeared to be confused. Pilot Rock police contacted the man. 12:16 p.m. - The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office is investi- gating a report of the theft of prescription medication and $350 in cash sometime during the night from a resident of East Juniper Avenue, Hermiston. The caller named a possible suspect. 1:31 p.m. - A resident of East Browning Avenue, Hermiston, reported her mail was opened and items taken. 1:38 p.m. - Squatters pitched tents and tarps in a canyon below an irrigation pond on property near Eastside Road, Milton- Freewater, a caller told the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office. 1:41 p.m. - Pendleton police received a complaint about someone using four or five rooms at the Howard Johnson, 105 S.E. Court Ave. The caller also said it seemed the front desk person allowed it. 1:55 p.m. - Smitty’s Ace Hardware, 1845 N. First St., Hermiston, reported 1the theft of a drill and flashlights. 3:23 p.m. - A man reported the theft of his camper from the parking lot at the former Albertsons store, 1300 S.W. Court Ave., Pendleton. The caller also said the theft happened four months ago. 4:15 p.m. - An employee of HAPO Community Credit Union, 1905 N. First St., Hermiston, asked to file fraud charges against a customer. Hermiston police took a report. 4:34 p.m. - An Ione man on Emert Road reported he left his home unlocked and returned to find the someone turned on all four burners on his stove. They were on for at least a couple of days, he said, and the top was starting to melt. 4:45 p.m. - Umatilla County sheriff’s deputies took a report of a burglary at a residence on Highway 332, Milton-Freewater. ARRESTS, CITATIONS •Hermiston police arrested Joshua Miltenberger, 24, 81767 Birdhaven Lane, Umatilla, for possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine, possession of Schedule IV controlled substance, first-degree possession of forged instrument, first-degree criminal trespass and second-degree theft. •Hermiston police arrested Hector Alejandro Ortiz-Guizar, 28, 1260 W. Ridgeway Apt. B, Hermiston, for possession of methamphetamine and on a felony immigration detainer warrant. Byers Ave. William “Bill” Douglas Tews of Ione, Ore., died December 26, 2016, in Rich- land, Wash., at the age of 58. He was the son of Paul and Rikka (Trangsrud) Tews of The Dalles, Ore. He attended Ione schools — kinder- garten through high school — gradu- ating in a class of nine. Following high Tews school he attended Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Ore., and Port- land State University, and was employed in Libya with an agricultural assistance program. Bill graduated from Seattle University in 1988 with a degree in public policy. At that time he returned to the family farm near Ione to begin farming with his father. In addition to being a caring and giving individual, Bill enjoyed restoring old cars and pickups, as well as literature, history and music.
