Charles I,. Buck) Herzog wa born at Baltimore. July 9, 1883. and player his first baseball in organized ranks with York, and Reading in the Tri State Leugue, after graduating from the University of Maryland. He started out as a third baseman, but has played every position an tund the edgo of the infield except first base. He first came to lhe Giants in 190S. but was useil as a substitute and goi Into filty-nine games. The following vear he played through the spring training games with Mcilvaw s clu' j and showed so much aggressive spirit 1 that Muksv" kept him all season. In 1910 he went to iiosion, ami continued with the Braves until July of 1911. when McOraw traded Gowiiv and midwell for him He stuck with New York until 1914 and was trans ferred to Cincinnati in the Hescher deal. 'The following year he was made manager of the Reds and con tinued in that capacity unUl July 20 1916. when McClraw pulled off the hig deal which sent Mathewson to "Cincy" and brought the veteran Herzog back Into the tliant "fold. Having disposed of Larry Hove. McOraw had to have a second base man and Herzog was assigned to the keystone sack. Though he had spent six years previously on the other side of tho diamond, playing short and third, "Buck" soon brushed u on the Job, and this season finds him playing second with the skill of a fin ished artist. Grandmother kept her hair beau tifully darkened, giossy and attrac tive with a brew of Sage Tea and Sulphur. Whenever her hair took on that dull, faded or streaked ap pearance, this simple mixture was applied with wonderful effect. By asking at any drug store for " y eth's Sage and Sulphur Compound." you will get a large bottle of this old time recipe, improved by the addition of other ingredients, all ready to use, for about 60 cents This simple mix ture can be depended upon to restore natural color and beauty to the hair. A well-known down-town druggist says everybody usea Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound now because it darkens so naturally and evenly that nobody can tell it has been applied it's so easy to use, too. You simply dampen a comb or soft brush and draw It through your hair, taking i one strand at a time. By morning the gray hair disapepars; after an- other apid cation or two, it is restor- ed to its natural color and looks : glossy, soft and beautiful. For the last four days federal mar shals have been going through the hotbeds of pro-llermanism in Iowa, singling out the leaders, assembling them on the public squares and in the presence of a majority of the towns folk, sternly lecturing them on their duties to this government, and warn ing them if there are any further complaints of disloyalty they will he either held for the federal grand jury or Interned during the war.
