Great bowls of blackeyed Susans and puppies were used with charm ing effect yesterday when Mrs. Ches ter Martin entertained informally for the pleasure of Mrs. H. 8. Rudd, who has recently come to Pendleton to make her home. Sewing and chatting provided the diversions, the hostess being assisted at the serving hour by Mrs. Walter Adams, Miss Gladys Smith and Miss Louise Bur in ester. The guest list included Mrs. Kudd. ' MILTON, June 7. (Special.) Mrs. W. H. Bailey and Mrs. C. J. McKensie entertained the girls who took part in the memorial services at the cemetery Decoration day. The party was given in honor of Miss Helen Barn hart of Pendleton, who has been spending a Tew days with the Baileys. j The affair was a Tied Cross affair. . The giris were each given a Red Cross towel to hem, and the one who did it the best got a prize. The judges . were Mrs. Charles Oockburn, M C. J. McKenxie and Miss Blanche (Cockburn. There were three prizes awarded, Genevieve Bevy winning ' first, Faye Price second and Orah Jenkins the consolation. The first prise was a silk flag, second a hand- j kerchief with flag on it, and third i an enameled flag pin. After the work had been examined it was all j found to be fine and was hard to award the prizes. j The house was decorated with the patriotic colors. The trip out was made in the auto truck and by private conveyance, flu easing contests provided an interesting part of the afternoon's entertainment, the prizes, beautiful articles of hand em. broidery, being captured by Mrs. ' Dorothy McKlernan and Mrs. V.
