Sherrard of th Ore j Son National Purest haa put the Ea- Kle Oreek Camp Grounds in readi 1 neaa fur the 1917 recreation season. The water pipes have been connected up bo that pure running: water is ) available at the various camp site., land the comfort station has been op - Iened. New tables for use of camp f m and picnickers have been built, and a splendid parking- place for ma chine i conveniently located near Ithe entrance to the camp grounds. A four-room tent house has been 'erected for the temporary beadg u ar te rs of the foreat officer ' who is again on duty at the grounds. Buttle Creek. Camp Grounds are lo cated on the Oregon national forest 44 miles eaat of .Portland on the won. derfm Columbia Highway. It is a place of great natural beauty & bit of w ildernc-bs set apart by tht govern- j ment fr the free use of the public. over 15.000 people visited these grounds in 19 16, and it is expected that several times that number will enjoy them this season. The picturesque Eagle Creek trail leads up the canyon from the camp grounds. This trail has been cleared of a few windfalls and slides which t-ame down during the winter, and Is now open for a distance of four and a half miles. A high bridge has been built acrocw Kanle OreW where the trial now end and it is expected that the trail will be completed to Wan turn Iake dur ing the coming field season. This will open up some very attractive country that is now inaccessible and make pKitle a fine J 7-mile hiking trip frtim the Columbia Highway at K&gle tr-ek Camp Grounds up the Eagle Creek canyon and over the divide to Wahtun Lake, returning to the High way at Herman Hanger fetation by whv of Herman Creek tralL The O.-W.
