BIG ELEVATOR TO BE BUILT BY FARMERS Tum-si-Lam Company Has Con tract for $22,000 , Structure. , ' Id t deal closed yesterday the en gineering department of the Tum-a-I.um LAunber company has contracted to build a 110,000 bushel grain ele vator for the pleasant View Ware house company, costing In the neigh borhood of S23.000. Work will be started as soon as the lumber can be laid on the ground. This will be the first big bulk grain elevator in this section of the coun try, and it is believed, will be follow, ed by other similar elevators in other leading wheat storage centers, for grain companies as well as farmers individually, are being won over to the bulk method of handling their crops. The Pleasant View elevator will be completed In plenty of time for handling this' year's grain crops. Mysterfhus submarines lurking off the Maine coast may be on the trail of the lobster pots. A building inspector for the ril) seems to be a probability as a result of the recent damage suit which cost the cif $350-0. "Last evening Council man Murphy suggested the retaining of a building inspector, whose busi ness it would be to see that the city ordinances are enforced and that ev ery precaution be taken to protect the public and employes, seemed the best solution of the question of protecting the city against further damage suits. His suggestion was favorably receiv ed and it was decided to Investigate the matter for a week during which time a fuller report could be prepar ed. Councilman Murphy suggested a flat salary for an Inspector and that the city make a charge for building permits. He also suggested that the inspector could take charge of sew ers and other work of the city. The suggestion of the mayor after City Attorney Fee had reported that a contractors" bond to protect the city could be secured at a minimum rate of J1.2 a year. However. It was estimated that most of the con tractors would have to pay much more If required to protect the city up to $6000. To -Frotert Freine-o. The bids for the construction of the bungalow at the cemetery were not opened as some of the bids have been delayed by failure to get the plans. J'everal .hundred Pendleton citisens, men, women and children, gathered at the O-W. depot last evening to give an appropriate aemioff to the little delegation of militiamen leaving to loin Co. K, of the . Idaho National Guard at Boise. Many goodbyes were said, many well wishes given and three rousing cheers voiced for the depart ing soldier boys. v There were eleven in the delegation leaving last evening and they were In charge of Corporal Richard Devlne. Sergeant Frank Cornfield remained behind to secure other recruits. A number of others belonging to the Pendleton delegation Joining the I. N. G. last year were not able to arrive here yesterday but are expected with in a few days. Red Cross workers were present yesterday evening at the train and presepted the boys with Bibles.
