FACE A SIGHT WITH ERUPTION RESINOL CURED (Special Correspondence.) llEUMISTON", Jan. 23. Hermiston live stock and especially dairy stock was riven a decided boost Saturday when the Hermiston Jersey Breeders association was organized. The association has for its object me improvement of dairy Mock on the Umatilla project and Is the part of the dairy department of the Ore pon Agricultural College which has labored to induce the settlors to enter Into dairying. It Is not conceded by all well informed residents, that It Is through the raising of alfalfa and live stock on these arid lands that w ill eventually come their reclamation. About two years ago a creamery was established and the growth of Its bus iness has been more than satisfactory to its owners. The number of dairy animals on the project has been grad ually increasing but the Increase has been in a rather hit and miss man ner. Owners are now aware that It is through breeding better stock and rot through purchase that the dairy stock of the project can be appreci ably improved and to this end was formed the Hermiston Jersey Breed ers' association. About 25 settlers of the project met In the council chamber for the pur rose of forming the association. Mr F. W. Kehrll the federal dairy expert read and explained the constitution and by-laws of the proposed organira- t:on and the election of officers re suited in the election of Geo. Cressy, president: W. T. Sellers, vice presl dent; C. M. Jackson, secretary-treas urea and F. P. Phlpps and W. H. Starr as directors, who with the president and secretary-treasurer will constitute the board of directors. Arter the meeting adjourned it was found that sufficient stock was subscribed to make a substantial be ginning of business and It was decld ed to purchase immediately two ol the best bred bulls In Oregon. These two animals are to come from what Is acknowledged to be the best produc ng nera or oiooaea jersey stock, not only of Oregon, but of the whole country, that of Ed Carey of Carleton ure. Preliminary negotiations with Mr. Carey have placed these two anl mala at the disposal of the association and Mr. Kehrll. the dairy expert was authorized to complete the purchase or them. So much Interest is aroused as to warrant the belief that it will only be a short time until further pur- cnases will be made necessary by In creased stock subscriptions caused by tne demand for better dairy animals rana&Jphia, Tx, Dec 5, 1013:.
