CITIZENS AND TAXPA VERS Do you realize the condition of Pendleton, during the dry era from 130S to 1911? It was conservatively estimated there were 400 to 5no vacant bouses in our town during that penod. and our population of 7000 in 190S decreased to 4500 inhabitants in 1510. During this period our neighboring city of Walla Walla, which was wet. had its most prosperous era. The building permits, issued in Pendleton during 1910 aggregated I29.950.2S. DurlnK 1911 when it was de termined by the People to have Home Rule and a regulated wet town, the permits were 144, 980.00. and dur ing 1912 $1,659.00. with a steady increase since. From be.n advices the state of Washington will again vote wet. anl if by your votes you deliberately sac rifice the business of our communities and build up chat of the Washington cities and towns, you are de priving your fellow man and neighbor of employment and forcing him to desert his little home and seek new localities. The prohibition law as proposed does not prevent liquors frcm being supplied our communities from neighboring states, but it does kill Home Rule and allows country sections end communities to buy and snip in all the liquor they have the money to buy. j Hired agitators are parading the county telling you the hop and barley industries of our state n II not suffer by prohibition, but the actual grower tells you he will be injured and asks your protection at the polls. Ask yourself honestly what la gained and what lost by prihibition? Business destrojed and diverted, boot leggers and tllnd tigers eabttituied Ut licem-ed saloons. VOTE 333 X NO (Paid; AdveiteWeht.
