Aug. 14 After only four months of wedded life Edward Joseph Emery Thompson, 8 blind street musician of Portland, ap plied for a divorce In the Clackamas county circuit court and was granted this divorce from Josephine ' B. Thompson, for cruelty. They were married In San Francisco, January 27, 1913 and shortly afterwards, Thompson alleges, his wife refused to help him about the house and finally left him and went to Everett, Wash. He sent her 130 and when she wrote to him, acknowledging the receipt of the money, she said she "did not want him to ever write to her again as she did not want to hear any more from him and did not want to live with him" and for him not to come to Se attle or Everett as "it was no place for a blind man." now the Trouble Starts. Bumgarner was suspected of the at tempted wholesale murder but he de parted at the time, reappearing shorn of his mustache and beard. The poi son was purchased at a local drug store and Bumgarner, according to , the clerk, said he intended to use it to poison squirrels. The clerk who sold the poison could not positively identify the prisoner, but he is being held pending further investigation. Aug. 14. Plans for the campaign for women's votes in 1914 were laid at a conference of leaders of the National Council of Women Voters here today. The meeting will continue in session for three days. It is being attended only bv women from states where equal suffrage Is now on the statute books. Mrs. Emma Smith DeVoe of Tacoma, Wash., presided today. Although the conference is primar ily to decide on plans for 1914, a public meeting and banquet to adver tise the fight for the cause will be held tomorrow. A number of states will vote on the suffrage question next year and members of the Women Vo ters' League want to outline all cam paign work immediately and arrange for speakers. Mrs. DeVoe will confer tomorrow with Representative Henry, chairman of the house rules commit tee, before which body the woman suffrage amendment to the federal constitution has been presented.
