Madame Kennedy, formerly a hair dresser of this city, is here from her present home in Athena. J. E. R03e of Hermiston, came In from the west end o the county yes terday and remained over night. George W. Proebstel of Weston was nn incoming passenger on the local from Walla Walla this morning. H. G. Casteel and Charles Scott, two well known young men of Pilot Rock, are transacting business in Pendleton today. Mrs. T. E. Thorn of La Grande, is among the Union county delegates to the S. S. convention being held in this city. Mrs. William A. Gent and Mrs. Al tr. Evans of Athena are among the delegates in attendance at the Sunday school convention. Floyd N. Schumaker, former news paperman in this city, has gone to Portland with a view to remaining there permanently. Miss Jennie Perry returned last evening from Kennewlck, where she has been visiting Mrs. ordon Moores for a couple of weeks. Robert Livermore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lot Livermore, returned last evening from Portland where he had been working for two years past. S. Whipple and son, Wesley Whip ple, of Hermiston, were in the city yesterday, the latter being a delegate to the Sunday school convention. J. H. Wallace, formerly manager of the dry goods department at the Alex ander store and who has been in Walla Walla for some years past, was here yesterday en route to Boise where he is to take a store position. PHOXK SETS ROBBER. FLYING. York, Pa. A telephone in the home of Dr. W. A. Yeagy of Dillsburg made an excellent burglar alarm. Robert Bally, living not far away, detected a man in the act of crawling through a window Into the home of the physician. Not caring to risk an encounter with the would-be thief, he went to his telephone and called up the physician. Looking out again, he saw the bur glar make his exit as though fired from a gpn. The telephone be'l had done the work. Nothing was missing except a few dollars from a drawer of the sideboard. Nurse to Wed Her Patient. Wlnsted, Conn. Miss Alegetha Wright, until recently assistant ma tron of the Litchfield County Hospital, is now on her way across the conti nent to wed Albert R. Burwell a chem ist of Los Angeles, Cal. Miss Wright, assisted in saving his eyesight when he was a patient in the hospital here last year. Young Burwell, who is a son of Dr. R. M. Burwell of Wlnsted, had been severe ly burned by an explostion In a local laboratory and grave fears were en tertained for his sight.
