C'attlo Sliow Much More Strength Loss on Hogs Is Regained Wheat Louses. (From Wednesday's Journal.) The heaviest Increase ever known In the output of lambs is reported to the Journal today by various corres pondents in the states of Oregon, Ida ho and Washington.. The run of lambs to date this sea son is unusually small and only a handful of spring stock has arrived at North Portland recently. The en tire mutton trade is very firm with prices higher for yearlings. Wants of killers are being taken care of. The increasing demand for mutton products has stimulated the sheep trade at North Portland to a consid erable extent. A few years ago there was little market here for sheep ow ing to the lack of ueslre of the gen eral public to purchase mutton. This condition has been changed until to day the Pacific northwest in really one of the best consuming sections for mutton In the entire country. Offerings in the nbeep division at North Portland this morning were moderate, only 574 head being receiv ed. This compares with 350 head that came forward last Wednesday. , Great Strength Everywhere. The mutton market Is showing much strength everywhere in the country. Much Strength for Cattle. There is a very strong tone for cat tle at practically every American yard today. The runs are generally fair, but demand Is increasing at auch a pace that the wants of the trade are not being supplied,, except at better prices. At North Portland today the ar rival of a single animal In the cattle division saved the trade from showing a clln slate. Locally, the cattle sit uation has improved materially dur ing recent days, and prices paid dur ing the past 24 hours were far better than anticipated, owing to the fact that little real extra quality was pre sented.
