The champion living "Nervy Nat" has been discovered. The man with the maximum amount of "cheek" and "gall" has been found right" here in Pendleton. At least ho thinks Law rence G. Frazier of the Frazier Nel- n Book company, and he is willing to wager that the public will accept his Judgment after they hear his story. It runs thusly: The Frazler-Nelson company, like all bookstores, sells magazines and, by way of advertising the fact to the public, exhibits copies of various pub lications in a rack Just oiit.siri it. doors. Yesterday a well dressed young gentleman stepped up to the rack, scanned the different magazines for a few moments until his eye lighted upon his favorite the Argosy, which sells for ten cents. He extract- ed one, opened it, found a story which appealed to his literary faculty and was soon engrossed in following the fortunes of the hero and heroine. Ten minutes he stood thus, his tare alight with the enjoyment of the story. ' Twenty minutes passed and still he was reading. Mr. Frazier had been timing him and his watch soon showed that the reader had been absorbed with the borrowed magazine for thirty minutes. When the thirty-five minute mark was reached and the gentleman without began to show signs of leg weariness, Mr. Frazier was moved to compas sion and he dispatched one of his em ployes forward with a chair. The emp'.oye courteously requested that the "patron" be seated but the latter politely answering. "No, thank you, I have almost finished" .went on read ing until the hero and heroine were married, after which he put the magazine back In the rack and saun tered on to a cigar store to eat out of the peanut bin "After all," remarked Mr. Frazier philosophically this morning in speaking of the Incident, "it was just an extreme case of a very prevalent habit. There are any number of prominent ladies in the city who will come Into the store and while away an hour or so with reading the latest magazines. They evidently get the Impression that we are running a free public library instead of a book store." COPYRIGHT Lawn Owners when you buy carden hose, I be sure and get the best.
