There was a more favorable tone in the hog market at North Portland for ' the duy. Tops sold at $6.75, or an' advance of 5c to 10c over last week's prices, but there wai a better feeling elsewhere. With "beat local hogs not bringing above $6. 75 and packers continuing to purchase swine at Missoruri river points, the prices here are far out of line with what they should be. On the bails of today's Missouri river market it would cost. $7. 40 to land hogs at any Pacific northwest pack-; Ing plant. While the local market Is 45c higher than the top at South Oma- j ha, it is still 65c under what packers are paying for the imported goods landed here, and the local quality Is considered the best. I There was a run of 586 hogs in the North Portland market today com-j pared with 285 last Monday. There was a strong tone in the sheep trade today. Although buyers continue to look at any offerings of lambs, they are nevertheless taking hold of muttons with much relish. Some stock was sold this morning at North Portland at $4.85 for yearlings but as the stock was sold weighed' off cars on the shrink, the filled price would not be above $4.75. 1 Movement of mutton for the day at North Portland was quite liberal. Receipts over Sunday were 1708 head compared with 719 last week. The market was considered about 6c higher for selected offerings, ewes going at $4.25 weighed off cars, which would mean $4.15 on the fill. Last week's price was $4.10 for this class of stock.
