One rea son why S. S. S. is so successful in caring Blood Poison is that it strengthens and builds up the stom ach and digestive members while eradicating the poison from the blood. The greatest of all reasons however is because this medicine possesses just the proper ingredi ents, blended and compounded in such scientific proportion, as to make it the most perfect blood purifier ever placed upon the mar ket. Lowell's announcement of his candi dacy for United States senator, issued a few days ago, he observed: "I as sume that at this late date no other re publican candidate U likely to enter the. field." Judge Lowell's calm assumption that ho and Senator Bourne are to f iKlit It out without Interference is ex citing serious thought among the pol iticians, says the Journal. While this is not considered a late date for can didates for county or even state of fices It Is generaly recognized that candidates for the United States sen ate who do not come Into the open soon will be ut a great disadvantage. So far, there is no announcement aside from Lowell and Bourne. Low ell indorses the Oregon system, stands forth generally as a progressive, and scekH to make the Issue the personal ity of Bourne. He has made a bid for the support of those to whom the name of Bourne is anathema. It Is the hope of Lowell's friends that the antl-Bourne sentiment will concen trate on their leader and not bring out a third candidate. Evidently the standpatters have given up hope of winning the senator ship and w'll be contented If they can end Bourne's senatorial career. At different times Theodore B. Wilcox, William C. Bristol and William It. Kills have been advanced, but there seems no movement on foot for any of them. Many Culled; Few Say "L" Judge Henry E. McGinn was urged to enter the race, but he Is friendly to Bourne and declined to do so Judge Lawrence T. Harris of Eugene was suggested, but he promptly balk ed. Dan J. Malarkey has been con sidered and has not said he would not run. He is still a possibility as the third man In the race. H. M. Cake, who beat Fulton In the primar ies in 190S and lost to Chamberlain In November 'of that year. Is also said to be thinking it over, on the theory that the parly may be willing to give him another trial. On the democratic side three names are being discussed. These are for mer Senator John M. Gearin. who once came near winning the popular vote against Bourne, ex-Mayor Harry CASTOR I A For Infants and Children. The Kind You Have Always Bought Bean; the Signature IN POUND. Miller of Lebanon. Congressman W. C. t Hawley, who who will leave tomorrow to attend the coming session of congre-s, has ex pressed confidence that he will be able to win another nomination without the need of campaigning. This op timistic view Is vigorously disputed by tne menus of other candidates, ana several aspirants are discussed. Dur ing the summer Hawley has been traveling over the district, renewing acquaintances and trying to make his fences secure. Many on Hawley Trail. Ful'y half a dozen possible candi dates are on the Hawley trail. Not all of these will run, but some of them will. Tho-e who most frequently are mentioned are George C. Brownell and Walter A, Dlmick of Oregon City, C. F. McNary of Salem, A. W. Nor blad of Astoria and W. A. Wiliams of Forest Grove. In the second district, compris'ng the counties of eastern Oregon, there !s a long list of possibilities, and two announced candidates. Those now In the open are John P. Rusk of La Grande, speaker of the last house of representatives, and S. Fred Wilson of Athena. Others now much dis cussed are District Attorney John W McCulloch of Ontario, Jay H. Dobbin of Joseph and R. R. Butler of The Dalles. N. J. Slnnott of The Dalles, who as considered a dangerous factor shou'd he decide to enter, Is said to have practically decided not to run. Another possibility said to have re moved himself from consideration Is T, J. Mahoney of Heppner. Others In the background are George E. Davis 'of Vale, George T. Cochran of La Grande, Emmett Callahan of Baker and W. S. Worden and George T. Baldwin of Klamath Falls. TO PILE VICTIMS. Treat the Inward Caune If You Want a Cure. Is piles a skin disease? "The Interests of the northwest will hofever, be as folly served under the new regime as they have been in the past. Sunset magazine has always paid great attention to the upbuild ing of the northwest, and this policy will be continued, making the Sunset The Pacific Monthly as much an ex ponent of northwestern development as of the development of the other Pa cific States." The Pacific Monthly was founded in 1898 the first number appearing in October. Two of the principal con tributors were Captain Cleveland Rockwell of Portland, and David Starr Jordan, president of Stanford University. William Blddle Wells was the first manager of the magazine. Shortly after its founding, two other small magazilnes published In Port land, the Native Son and Drift, were merged with it. Mrs Llschen M. Mil ler, of Eugene, was editor of the Pa cific Monthly In Its early years. Luto Pease Retires. Lute Pease has held the editorial reins for about four years, taking up the work about the same time Mr. Lockley was appointed manager. Mr. Peae said that he would not be con nected with the-magazine under Its new management. He will leave in about a month for a winter vacation In California, after which he will re tarn to Portland. Mr. Pease was not prepared to make a definite state ment ns to his future plans as yet, but said that he intends to remain a resident of this city.
