After jabbing Her man Seigel of South street above Third with a hatpin, Lillian Heinold of Abington, Pa., caused his arrest upon the charge of annoying her while she was iu a moving picture show in Marke; street. Miss Heinold testified that Seigel, who sat back of her, when she quick ly turned upon him and made usa of her hatpin, jabbing him in the arm. Seigel made a hurried exit from the show but Miss Heinold followed him until she met Reserve Policeman Brandiinger, who arrested Seigel, Seigel emphatically denied the charges of the young woman.' Narcisse McKay, .renowned Indian buckaroo, who made a remarkable showing at the Round-Up, was ar rested last night for being drunk and this morning forfeited h's $5 bail. William Switzler, another Indian, was picked up for a similar offense and was forced to go to jail for three days. Ferdinand Day Says Ho Turned Thief to Secure "Local Color" for Story. San Francisco, Calif. Ferdinand Day, charged with robbery, told the police that he had played highway man in order to gather material for a magazine story on the subject of the "Footpad and His Ways." Jack Ryan, well known waiter in the French restaurant, bid in the Bos ton restaurant this afternoon when it was auctioned off by Deputy Sher iff Blakeley at a sheriff's sale. The price paid was $400 above the claims held against It, the whole amounting to $877.70. The restaurant was clos ed during the Round-Up when one of the Greek proprietors ran off with heavy receipts. There is a certain aristo cratic and highly strung cocker span iel in Denver who may just be class ed with the most successful workers for social reform in the city. Single voiced he entered a vigorous protest against the bad habits of rail road locomotives which shiek and wail at unseemly hours of the night. From this protest arose a great popular de mand, and "Thanatopsis," as the cocker spaniel Is called, forced the rich and powerful railroad to capitu late. Secretary James R. Noland of the Fire and Police Board has been ex tremely busy of late filing away let ters from high railroad officials beg ging that their regrets bo conveyed to Thanatopsis, and promising that the whistling of locomotives shall be permitted only when absolutely ne cessary. The proud owner of Thanatopsis made the first complaint to the Fire and Police Board. He is a very well known Donveiite, a former politician i'nd state official of wealth and influ- j ence, I He appeared before Secretary No- land one day and said: "Can't you make these railroads stop blowing train whistles at all holrs of the night and morning. Water Turned In Sewer. Mayor E. J. Murphy announced this morning that water was turned into the pipes of. the sewer extension at 6 o'clock last evening. Spokane, Wash. When Very Rev. Edward J. O'Dea, S. J., bishop of the diocese of Nesqually, entered the nave of St. Aloysius Catholic church here at the head of a procession of visiting bishops and priests and 80 acelytes to perform the dedicatory ceremonies the morning of Columbus day, he was greeted by a wild dove, which, after circling above his head, sought shel ter in the rafters. Whence the bird came or how it gained admission to the church could not be explained by Father P. J. Arthuls, procurator of the province of California, who had personal charge of the building oper ations. Bishop O'Dea performed the ponti fical high mass, in which he was as sisted by visiting priests. Very Rev. James A. Rockcliffe, S. J., provincial of the province of California, preach ed the dedicatory sermon. The music was supplied by a large choir and the Oonzaga college orchestra. After ward the visitors were entertained at a banquet in the college hall, where Bishop O'Dea presided. The edifice, which is 190 feet in length, 110 feet In width nt the tran- scepts and 124 feet In height, with two spires, each of 164 feet, sur mounted by electrically lighted cross es, was erected at a cost of $ ISO, 000, exclusive of site and was built by day labor under the direction of Father Arthuls, who says there was not an accident of any kind during the con struction period. The elaborately paneled nrch of the auditorium Is 50 feet above the floor, which will accommodate 1,100, the seating capacity of the gallery being 250. The structure, which was er ected in less than two years, is de clared by architects and builders to be tho most modern and complete of Its kind In the intermountaln country. With one side badly battered "amidships" the Pullman standard sleeper Miramon Is on the sidetrack in the O.-W. R. & N. yard today and the condition of the car has attracted considerable Interest. The car was damaged at Gibbon night before last when the train to which It was at tached was standing upon a sidetrack. Through a mistake on the part of a trainman a box car was allowed to collide with the sleeper and It hit with a jolt that smashed In the car and raked it from end to end.
