Main St., Walla Walla Wn the order to move will probably be delayed for a while. Nevertheless there are other cattle coming forward from the outside that will continue to give the trade here Its most bearish tinge. A big lot of Colorado cattle Is expected In the North Portland yards late in the day and will add to the accumulated holdings already shown there. Buyers are extremely bearish in their views regarding the market, and now that they have the chance, prices are being slashed right and left. With in the space of a few days cattle mar ket prices have lost 60c, with further weakness showing. While a sale of California stuff was made late yesterday at 18.85 and re ported In last night's Journal the top of the market today Is generally be lieved to be $6.60 or 16c down. The cattle situation is showing one of those extremes seldom witnessed and therefore It seems small wonder that a further severe reduction has not been made In the price. With fed cattle still coming forward In very large numbers and with the formal opening of the grass season, the two extremes of values are meotlng at this tlnio, and naturally prices are suffer ing. Those that have fed cattle to sell aro naturally desirous of obtaining more money fo rtheir goods, and some of the shippers are not inclin ed to to pay the low prices offered. They seem of the opinion thut the market will do better after awhile, but this view Is not shared by the rattle trade generally, and buyers are Kitting more bearish every day. The bringing In of dressed meats from Omaha by Armour & Co., has been a very bearish Influence In the local trade. Thus far this week two ears of Omaha dressed beef have been received here and theBe will complete with the local trade. On account of not being regularly established in the dressed beef trade here, It Is ex tremely unlikely that Armour can or will demand the top for the eastern supplies, therefore this has Its effect toward lowering dressed meat prices generally. According to Manager Herren of Armour & Co., It Is not likely that further shipments will be brought for ward to Tortland at this time owing to the expectations of warmer weath er which would make It Impracticable to ship dressed beef such a long dis tance. The chances of loss are said to be too great to continue the ship ments. Along with 'ho dressed beef being brought out from the Omaha market by Armour, a local meat company Is bringing in supplies of live cattle from the M'ssourl river territory. The firm is said to have quite buying In the yards recently. So they sent around two wagon loads this afternoon. Then the girls promptly became as haughty as only census girls can and refused to eat the cream. Instead, they got a little hotter than before and gave out the following statement of their strange wrongs: "The women clerks of the census bureau were furnished ice cream this afternoon by the women's welfare de- partmen of the National Civic feder ation. Doubtless these good ladles thought that they were doing a great and gracious action In alleviating the sufferings of the poor working wo men of the census bureau.
